Back in the day,Finning sold Tanguay log iron,JCB excavators,Thunderbird yarders,and I think even little Ram Rod mini loaders,Dont know if they carried Wagner,but any used gear that went through their hands would have gotten a Finning decal I'm sure

here our some older roadbuliders and skadill who converted your old ex200 was it wajax they did some Roadbuilders a long time ago where who makes a coverted Roadbuilder the converter or the oem they where made by waycon is not a common converter

Those aren't very old. The first outfit that I'm aware of that specially modified machines into roadbuilders was Cypress, they modified the American 750C shovel with a proper cab, guards, and a hydraulic winch on the boom, mid 1970's. Late 70's early 80's Chapman started taking the basic Hitachi UH-14 backhoe, and adding teeth to the bottom of the stick, guards, extra fuel tanks, etc. They did the same with the UH-14-2, UH-171, UH-172, and UH-181. Later Cypress bought Chapman, and built roadbuilders around EX-400 backhoes. Wajax took over from Cypress.

There were a few other outfits in BC that took various makes of backhoe, and modified them for roadbuilding, but I'll have to look them up. Finning started modifying the Cat 235 for roadbuilding quite early, way back in the 70's. And someone was modifying the 300 Poclain shovel fronts for roadbuilding in the mid 70's, but I don't know who sold them. Chapman also built one or two shovels using Lorain components, I think one went to McDonald Cedar, not sure who got the other. The hydraulic shovels were popular for a short period in the 70's, before the backhoe caught on. They weren't as good as the line shovels, they just didn't have the breakout power that a line machine has.

A few outfits used Cat 245's for roadbuilding, but they were real lemons, nothing but trouble. Actually, the early 235's were junk, too. They were crappy machines until the C model came out.

Most of the older buckets were by ESCO, just like the shovels. Most of the buckets I've seen lately were Weldco-Beales or CWS. Never heard of Gilles Bros. ???

Early Hitachi UH-14 roadbuilder done up by Chapman, early 80's or late 70's. This one has an ESCO bucket. The old UH-181 backspar in one of the previous posts had a Chapman bucket.

That old dash 2 Hitachi roadbuilder now owned by spitzair was done by Contract Equipment in Courtenay,B.C.They really got into that in the early nineties,along with log loader conversions and yoders.And TL the above UH is a beautiful sight,thats a great couple pics of an early roadbuilder-real good!
