thanks for the insight C.L..i,ve never really had a chance to run a thunderbird or been around one(a real one anyway),but i'm interested in how easy they are to service and repair.i know they wouldn't be as easy as a madill but they've got to be easier to acess the internals than an import

Found this neat old Beloit in Gold River 3 summers ago, when I went back there this past summer she was gone. Hope it didn't get cut up for scrap!

Anything in specific folks want to see? I deal with 7 mills and their contractors here in Alberta so get to see lots of their equipment in the woods..can post photos as time/opportunities present themselves. Mostly John Deere and CAT equipment

I'd like to see some on site shots. I never get away from my projects to see what others are doing. If road building and pipe installs slow down or I get rained out, they stick me on a bellydump. The last 3 years, winter construction and mainteince have slowed down quite a bit and become more seasonal. But luckily for me something always has comeup.
I like what people have been showing already, even the boneyards!

I 've got a question about the Beloit. The 1st boom section at the foot. Extending out will improve reach, but retracting looks like it changes the main boom lift cylinders/boom geometry to allow maximun lift, and also shift back load center. Do all four cylinders work off one stick function or are they independent. I guess what I'm trying to ask is- is boom position a 2 stick simultaneous manuvere, then just use the 2nd boom as the main boom up/down function?

dblott, I'm sorry I can't really answer your question having never run the machine, just saw it sitting in a yard and took pictures of it cause I thought it's neat. A great description can be found here : http://www.vannattabros.com/iron14.html These guys had one and put a great little write up about it up here. I was hoping I could buy this machine but she was gone last time I was there, and I didn't have time to go look for it or ask what it's fate might have been. Hopefully it's still alive and kicking somewhere...

First log loader I ever ran was a 1972? 466 Koehring. Between 1982 and1984. Learned alot on that old machine. Right side cab, air over hydralic, 2 joysticks( looked like a couple of dog bones sticking up), out at arms length with flippers to work the extra functions. Makes my shoulders ache thinking about those now. Chain drive tracks. No pics, just memories.

Thanks for taking time to post the pictures, very enjoyable to see the machines and oh the great country you are working in. If you have time post some more and tell us a little about where you are working.

Skadill would be the best user to share the story, he's more familiar then myself.
