    new to me 936 cat

I've had 4 of them. Great machines. Only issues were leaks on the valves for the loader controls under the cab. The small hex-head screws would back themselves out. A little lock-tite would solve this. Parking brake issues, but that was mostly operator error due to lack of adjustment, not...

    Snow tires?

Are you willing to experiment with your existing tires? You can buy an electric tire groover from here: http://www.bryke.com/wheel_tire_accessories.html and modify the tread pattern to eliminate the 'blockiness'. You can also add sipes with the groover to help with wet/ice traction.

    Cat truck

Cummins will be supplying the DPF/SCR technology. I'm pretty sure that the 550HP will still be the Cat block in the Cat 680 truck. If you want bigger power in the International trucks, then Cummins will the the engine supplier.

    Cat truck

I bob-tailed one. I wasn't terribly impressed. But to really tell, you need to have a loaded trailer and give it a real work-out. I didn't like the ergonomics of the steps and doors for getting in and out. The exposed airlines all around it didn't impress me much, either. They need to offer...
