    966F II issue?

So we have a CAT 966f II that we dont use a lot. Backup basically. Doesn't get a lot of attention. I was running it today and thought the cycle time on the loader seemed unusually slow. So I was noticing that I cant raise and curl at the same time, raise and dump at the same time, etc. Do these...

    CAT 973D? Right machine?

OK so need some advice since I have no experience with track loaders. Not real popular in this area, CAT dealer doesn't even have one around for us to sit in or try out. We have a particularly wet sewer job coming up. We currently use wheel loaders on all of our jobs and they do pretty good. On...

    Forestry tires

Was talking to the boss today and we had an idea. We have a used Komatsu WA380-6 loader that we picked up for a good price from a company getting out of business. Since this is a little lighter unit I was thinking about putting a set of Galaxy Hippos on it and seeing how it gets along in the mud...

    Forestry tires

Volvos are doing great so far. They each have about 1200 hrs on them give or take. Really nice machines and no issues at all so far knock on wood. I was worried about the tire overload. The tire guy we have dealt with for years has little to no experience in the forestry tire market, just...

    Forestry tires

Yes if we went with the Primex we would have to get a new rim made. Our thought with that particular size of Primex tire, 66x43-25, is the they are wider which would help with flotation and the aggressive tread would allow more traction. Our biggest issue on these sites is traction as the...

    Forestry tires

Volvo 180H loaders. Current tires are Bridgestone VTS 775/65R29. Think they are around 65 PSI but not 100% sure. Considering Primex Logstomper Super Hi Flotation HF4 66x43-25 20 ply tires. As for compaction we use a lot of sand backfill. If the pipe is buried at all in the influence of the road...

    Forestry tires

I wanted to see if anyone has any experience with forestry tires on a wheel loader for water and sewer work. We have had a real wet year and major issues getting the loaders around the site. We have looked at some forestry tires and they are super expensive. Do the forestry tires improve...

    Cat 966/972 K or M steering wheel?

Wanted to start a new thread on this topic. When we were considering the purchase of a new loader recently our Cat salesman said that Cat never did make a 966K with a steering wheel even though the brochure hints at one. Recently Digdeep confirmed he sat in a 966M with a regular conventional...

Cat 938K vs Volvo L90G vs. Komatsu WA320-7

Any luck with the photos Digdeep? I did look through the 966/972M series brochure and it lists the steering wheel as EH. So it isn't a cab command like the previous generation but I am thinking the feel might be a bit numb if it is fly by wire vs. direct linkage of years past. Anyone on the...

Cat 938K vs Volvo L90G vs. Komatsu WA320-7

Really, a 966M with a steering wheel? Was it a normal conventional steering wheel or like the cab command steer they used to have in the older G's and H's? I know my Cat salesman says that Cat claimed they were going to offer a steering wheel in the K's but then decided not to. Maybe they...

Cat 938K vs Volvo L90G vs. Komatsu WA320-7

You are correct Digdeep there 938K is steering wheel only. I was referring to the 966K and up. When we decided to go with he Volvo 180's we stayed the same brand with the 90. I just was commenting on how it was weird that Cat now only offers the 966 and up with joystick.

    Water and sewer excavators

I thought the 490 was a really good unit, better than all of our current Cat stuff. The 349 however just seemed to have more power and was just as precise as the 490. We did not try the 470 as there wasn't one to be had in our demo time frame. Would have liked to try one but the quote we...

Cat 938K vs Volvo L90G vs. Komatsu WA320-7

We went with the Volvos. We bought a L90G and two L180H's. Guys are loving the Volvos. We use the L90 with a broom, forks and a bucket. We got the 180's with 7.2 yd buckets and 96" JRB forks 128" carriage, awesome machines for the handling long trench boxes and trench plates. Also the machine...

    Water and sewer excavators

Wanted to follow up on this thread. I appreciate everyone coming to the table with their personal experiences. We stayed with CAT. We bought a 390DL and a 349EL. We jumped in right before the F's became a must, wanted to avoid DEF. We really like the new CAT's. Really big improvement I feel...

    cement mixer for sewer crew

buckfever, are the holes usually that tight on the storm sewer pipe. Seems like we are always filling a gap around the pipe with brick and then mudding that. I assume you guys do not have a mixer on site for your sewer crew then?

    cement mixer for sewer crew

CM1995, I started off working on the "mud sled" and know it all to well. I guess i was hoping someone else somewhere in the country figured out how to make something work better or easier. I think our biggest issue with ordering redi mix is timing. We need to mud up the pipe coming into the...

    cement mixer for sewer crew

tuney443, we are adding sewer and water to the back of an existing housing development. Most of our work is in areas like this were we are building greenfield housing developments. I don't think the dreary winter land scape helps.

    cement mixer for sewer crew

Here is a pic of the setup we use to make cement for our manholes on our sewer crews. We drag it around the site with a dozer. I know in this area they are quite common. Other areas of the country I have gone to I do not see a cement mixer setup on the sewer crew sites. What are you guys doing...

    loader bucket?

shimmy1, so you think it would be a pretty poor loader for backfilling then?

    loader bucket?

Thanks guys. I have searched Google as well with no results. So yeah homemade makes sense. I think the fact it can reach the middle of the trench is very good. You are right if the loader can keep up it would be quicker than a stone box, stone or sand would be moved one less time. I looked up...
