    Goodall Jump packs

A little late jumping in but yesterday I used someone's DSR 12v/24v DSR166 jump pack to start a truck with the Cummins 8.3L 6CTA. Truck had lost all prime in the fuel system and they ran the batteries down to nothing cranking it. They asked me to help so I bypassed the leaking fuel system and...

Congrats!!! That's a nice looking machine and I hope the innards match the outtards in shape and condition. I have its baby brother, a a 941B, and enjoy putzing around it so I know you'll have even more fun on the bigger machine. And don't worry about the undercarriage...at least for a...

Ford E450 Bucket Truck (Roberts Hydraulic) – 12V or 24V System? Rewiring After Battery Fire

If it helps, we can review your thoughts on your power demands with your system when it's all said and done. And to be honest, when I see an unbalanced system (12v truck, 12v hydraulic pump, 24v inverter) on two batteries (non-deep cycle at that), I'm thinking there might be a simpler, more...

Ford E450 Bucket Truck (Roberts Hydraulic) – 12V or 24V System? Rewiring After Battery Fire

That sucks you're dealing with a battery fire but we'll get you through this. No problem (other than time, money, patience, and busted knuckles)!!! And lots of good info so far from Simon and Mike. You're on the right track by first identifying which components are 12v vs 24v. In the US...

    Cat d4g jumping to right

Upfront, I'm not an expert in heavy machine repairs but I've been around wire bundles and control signals enough in other industries to wonder if you have a rubbing short to ground or battery power somewhere that's causing a spike in your signal wire. Since Cat already diagnosed a random...

Anyone with experience opening up a Bosch fuel supply high pressure pump on Kubota V2403-CR-TIE4 engine?

I'm working on a crank-no start issue for Kubota V2403-CR-TIE4 engine in a Hyster H60FT 6k forklift. This is the common rail Tier 4 emissions engine that I think is quite common in many applications. If I keep the forklift, I may put 10-20 hours of use on it a year so not looking to toss many...

re: contractual liability. While AI is not a substitute for a lawyer, your favorite AI tool should be able to do a quick summary of your rental contract in plain speak so you have a better idea of what liability you have when you sign. Just ask for a copy of the contract to review before you...

    First Excavator - Recommendations

First, welcome to HEF. You're doing the right first move to get on here and ask questions. The amount of knowledge here has kept out of hot water many, many times with my old machines. To help answer your question, I would list out here the type of work you want to do. Be detailed. For...

That's a great way to start. You'll quickly get a feel for how much power, weight, and features you'll want when you buy you're own machine. A while back, I looked into renting before I bought my 325BL but decided not to do after I talked to my local Cat rental and tried to set it up. At...

Heavy lifts with the 322. Strategy.

What also matters is how you lower a load as the CG will shift during non-perpendicular lifts and lowers. With a hoe, I believe the only way to lift or lower a heavy load any decent distance is to use the boom which pushes the load and CG away from you as you lower with boom only. Thus you...

New to Me 1988 Cat D4H

I’ve heard even transmission jacks or even floor jacks are ok for the smaller dozers like this. Once out, folks have added eye-bolts on the guards to help lift the guards back into place with ratchet straps or come-alongs once done. Much easier and safer to lift up and get one bolt started...

Okay, I understand the blade is a 'want' not a 'must have' whereas the aux plumbing is a 'must have'. As stated by others here, understanding your list of features, both the 'must haves' and 'wants' will pay dividends for you. Bottom line- stay at it! You have a lot of support here to help...

@Buffallobull I'm glad your spirits are still up and you're still actively looking. I do have a question about: The thumb requirement I understand but are you saying a hoe must have a blade to be considered? That will greatly limit your options to the smaller side of a tree-killer but I totally...

That's what I was saying about that Cat 315B. To my understanding of the pictures, it was already plumbed for aux hydraulics but only an inspection would verify the reality. Since the machine already came with a manual thumb, just use it and learn the benefits and limitations of a thumb so you...

Lots of by great advice above by both Crane and Harley. But also understand that looking for the perfect deal in older used equipment is about as productive as playing the lottery. There's a chance it will happen...but....well, you understand.

Glad the pump worked out for you and the trip wasn’t wasted. I will say that RB does a decent job of giving folks the ability to inspect pretty thoroughly. Just short of an actual field trial. They will even jump start most vehicles when asked. Much better service than most local auction houses.

Yes, as SkyKing alludes to, you really need to look a machine in person to best understand it. While RB does a much better job of posting photos than most auction sites, it's hard to tell what condition a machine is just from photos. For instance, that black goo that SkyKing refers to assumes...

For what it's worth, I only saw 2 other 315B sold in the last couple years on RB. Interestingly both sold for $16.5k. Also note the stick lengths are different for all three (the two sold and one for sale). Looks like the one for sale has the shortest stick which may be beneficial if you do...
