Uncle in CdA was originally living Anchorage AK, moved to Bend OR when the Asian population boomed he sold off to move to CdA, said last week had he not just turned 93 he would move again as the region has changed so dramatically in the last five years. He does not appreciate the level of Californians that have pretty well taken over the city, stores and politics.

His second choice was also not so good, SLC UT. Rest of his immediate family children live in or around SLC, it too is growing painfully.

Here in my little burg we are dealing with similar. Have a new neighbor just 150' off our south fence within eye shot of our front door, can hear when their garage door opens. Farm across a small valley from us has just been sold to a close relative of the previous owner, he intends to raise sheep on it. Then down the valley ever more properties are selling to the Weekend Warrior hunters that have not figured out fence means do not enter, tracking all over other's properties and starting fights/legal battles.

I may have already said this here but one of the first things I'm looking at is the County's P&Z if there's 12,865,342 pages of zoning & building regs (like Kootenai/CdA) they can go pound sand. It's one of the first places "they" infect. It's called in "their" circles 'Prescriptive Planning'- banning outright what you don't believe in wont work so get in gov't & regulate & tax the s**t out of it until it's impossible to do.

Hmmmmmm........with those caravans headed north a guy might be able to pick up say, Honduras, off Craigslist for a decent deal and then make my own rules.

Idahos trespass laws until this year were good for the hunter, kind of a pain for the landowner. landowner must either post his property every 660 feet or paint an orange square every 660 ft. Otherwise the landowner could not really do much about it. and even then the fine was like 50 bucks.
That changed this year though.

Missouri is a Purple Code color that even the paint stores have on record to reproduce. Paint has to be visible from each marking to the next and from/to the last. Do not have to post Do Not Trespass or Do Not Cross signs, just fence and purple and anyone comes across is fair game. Fine has gone up, I believe is now $250 suspension of hunting privileges 90 days First occurrence, $500 and loss of hunting privileges forever second. Draw a weapon on a owner expect to be shot back at.

I'm derailing my own thread here but this kind of made me go "wow". This morning I took mom (81yo) for cataract surgery #2 (#1 was 4 weeks ago) and talking to the nurse about how quick the process seemed she said the pre-op work takes way longer than taking the cataract out & putting the new lens in and this doctor is really good and can do one in 6-10 minutes!!!!!! Whaaaa? No way! We left to the big city at 0630 and were home at 0946.

Just an FYI for the younger folks- if you feel you have some responsibility for your parents when they get older be prepared. On top of the regular stuff I've got (taking shopping, dr. appts, scrips, etc.) now between the cataract & macular degeneration treatments it's 3 eye drops 4 times a day for the next 3 weeks in the left eye and 2 drops 2 times a day for another 2 weeks in the right (already been doing the 3 4x on the right) and 1 more each for the macular. Almost a full time job, luckily I'm at a place in life where I can do it.

I am stuck doing my own, got almost used to putting the drops and ointment in my eye when I was recovering. Still can have a eyelash or chunk of rock or rust in it waters just a little itches some but nowhere near to annoying after having the 27 .002 SS wire stitches in my cornea for a month. Amazing what can accustom to.

Being on the south side of 30 at the moment I still have a lot of time before my parents need help there only in there early 60s

But working with dad this last year I have really noticed his age slowing him down on the really physical stuff or the 6 days a week at 10 12 hours a day it's kinda different now to be able to out last him maybe I am naive but I really want expecting that or that he would back away from certain jobs if he had a choice

I have the opposite problem, AZIron.
My dad is 76, I am 54.
He will work longer and harder than guys a 1/3 his age. And definitely will keep up with me all day.
When I try and get him to slow down, he says it’s why he can still do all he does-cause he never quit.
Mom called me a few weeks ago, 7am, says dads cutting down the big maple tomorrow, can you help him?
10:00 am the same day , she sends me a txt, dads already cut the tree down and is cutting it up and loading in the dump trailer - by hand!
She says, well maybe you can bring the excavator over n get the stump out.
He did wait for me to do that. But decided that he would dig all roots out that grew beyond where I ripped the stump out - with a shovel n an axe!
I was going to pull them all out when I was there with the excavator! But he said no I will take care of that.
I thank dad n mom for good genes and a good work ethic!
I hope Dad slows down before I do!

You know what's really funny is since we got dad a new backhoe the one place I can't keep up anymore is behind the controls and not to say I am a lousy operator but after 50 years in a seat that man is truly gifted only one guy I know keeps up with him when he puts his head down and goes full tilt

Fwiw.If your gramps or dad wants to work let them work.We tried to make things easier for my grandpa and bought him a golf cart to get around and started doing cattle chores for him.Seems that when he had no reason to leave the house is when he started to go downhill fast.And he wasn’t a slouch by any means

My father-in-law still drove his pickup and mowed his acre (and all the neighbors, too) on the big John Deere riding mower at 88yo. He was a Wake Island POW so spent 4 years as a guest of the Japanese and had health issues after that. That man had no quit in him. Oh yeah, he also had 5 daughters......

It’s all how you raise them. It’s those damn boys you gotta watch! Just set the tone early about how they should be treated, mostly by example, and you’ll be in good shape. The father daughter bond is a big deal.
