    939C electrical issue

While installing a new radio antenna, I dropped a small socket into the cigarette lighter plug. I had the key on and immediately noticed that I lost the radio. I've also lost power to both wipers, AC fan, and dome light. I've also noticed that after I start the loader, the red (lightning bolt)...

    Transmission temp gauge on D7E

I'm replacing the transmission temp gauge on my D7E high horse. I pulled the floor pans and the old gauge line has been cut off under the pans. Can someone tell me where the probe screws into the trans? I don't want to take off any more stuff than I have to. Thanks for the help.

    D7E 48A compression release

My D7E 48A seems to be going thru starters at a pretty fast rate, and I was asked if it has a compression release. Can anyone answer this for me, and if so, where in the heck is it located? It has the pony motor replacement starer. Thanks!

    D7E 48A starter issue

I've had the starter on my 7E rebuilt 3 times over the past 2 years. After coming out of the shop, it will start fine for several months, then the starter will delay before spinning over. Once I hit the button, I can hear the relay, then it may take 1 second or it may take 3 or 4 seconds before...

    D7E 48a injector issue

A few weeks ago, I had 2 O rings leaking between the pump and two of the lines, so I decided to replace all of them. When I pulled the cap housings from pump, each individual nozzle came out with the cap. I replaced the orings, but I apparently don't have the nozzles set correctly. The dozer...

    D7E brake bands

A friend and I started replacing the brake shoes on my D7E today. The current band that's on there is a 1 piece. I'm curious if there's a OEM or aftermarket 3 piece band that will fit back in there that is the same size. Thanks for any help! Chad

D7E 48A1083x I've got a massive leak where the input shaft goes into the front of the transmission. It appears to be a seal failure but the manual is not clear on how to get this seal out. Any (and I do mEan any) help on this would be appreciated!

    cab swap on a 68 D7E

I am checking to see if a D7G cab will fit on a D7E, or if anyone has ever done this. My E currently has a open ROPS and I would like to convert it over to a enclosed cab with heat and air. There are a few G parts dozers in the area, and the hot and dusty Texas summer will be here soon. Thanks

    D7E brake changeout

I'm thinking that it's time to change out some pads on the 7E 48A. Right brake still works but the left brake is at full adjustment and won't hardly turn the machine. Is there a "shortcut" or easier way to get to them without having to remove half the top of the machine? Also seems like I have a...

    oil in coolant 1968 D7E

I'm getting oil in the coolant on my 68 D7E 48A10837. Changed the oil cooler and that didn't help. Oil in the crankcase is fresh and black and hasn't dropped in level on the dipstick. Engine runs great with no problems. Any idea where this oil may be coming from?? The water-oil mix coming out of...

    D7J winch fluid

I wanted to check with y'all to see if anybody runs 303 hydraulic in their winches. I rarely run this dozer in cold weather, and I only use the winch on rare occasions. I have an abundance of 303 laying around, so I wanted to get some opinions before putting it in.

    D339 oil capacity

Can somebody tell me the oil capacity of a caterpillar d339 on a 68' D7E ? The manual I have only shows the 3306. A Wix or Napa oil filter number would be handy as well. Thanks

    reversing fan on a 68 D7E

I bought a set of manuals for my D7E, but I'm waiting for the pony express to deliver. In the meantime, I've been running this machine and the airflow is blowing backwards, sucking air towards the engine. Can someone give me the Cliffs notes version of how to reverse these blades so that it...

    adjusting brakes on 68 D7E

I bought a 1968 D7E over the weekend. Undercarriage and machine both to be in great condition, however I need to check the brakes and adjust them. I am in the process of running down a maintenance manual before I start putting alot of hours on it. I've done some research, and have read that the...

holes in top of D4D fuel tank.

Can someone tell me what the 4 holes are for that are one either side of the fuel cap. It doesn't appear that these holes penetrate the top of the tank, but I may be wrong. I am looking for a place to mount a small bracket for a water jug, and thought that on top of the tank would be a good spot.

    D4D hydraulic tank dipstick

Im fixing to change the hydraulic oil on my D4D and noticed that there appears to be a place for a dipstick in the screen filter, but it's missing. If someone on here has one, could you tell me how far down the full mark is from the top (elbow) of the stick. Thanks!

    Making brush screens

Within the next few weeks, I'm going to try and build some brush screens for the side of my D4D. One obvious obstruction that I already see is the handle that's welded on both sides of the fuel tank. Does the hand just serve as a grab iron, or does it have a more important purpose? I've never...

how to wire hour meter on D4D

I recently took the dash cowling off of my newly aquired D4D in order to install a new temperature gauge. I quickly noticed that the hour meter wires had been cut off at the gauge. Actually, the wires are not even there anymore. Since the starter switch is basically just a starter and fuel...
