Heres some pics i always liked.

I always like to see pics like that. It really takes skill and coordination to make a move like that happen.

Not the biggest load but large non the less.

Good one wrenchbender. Whats the deal with the 3rd axle from the end on that trailer. I hope its just sitting in a pothole.

You have a weight for that?

I think I found the biggest as far as dimensions (height, width) but not weight. This is a container crane that was relocated to a different port. Its still pretty heavy though at 700 tonnes.

Whats 700 "tonnes" converted to "tons"?

Another big load.

This is the way they used to do it. :yup

700 tonnes = 771.617918 short tons, thanks Google!

Here's some that I took. Not the heaviest, tallest or longest, but cool anyway.

is this big?
Your right that module is heading to the CCP on the north slope. it was one of 2 that year. it was the last module to be built at the Portland, OR ship yard, as they were the only one to have a dry dock large enough to handle them.
I was the driver in the far Hendrickson DPM360. Trailers were configuared with 768 tires and weighed 1.2 million #,s the DPM360 started at 360,000# and had 200,000# of counterweight added over the drivers (thats 200k on each truck.) They are powered by vt1710 v-12 Cummins (750hp) with a clark 8f/4r trans.
the modules weighed 3700+ tons and was 224' long, 97' wide and 11 stories tall.
the photo shows us moving the mods to the barges for transport to AK. Once in Prudhoe they were moved about 5 miles on gravel roads to the central compressor plant for placement. A full barge of plywood and many rig mats was required to help stabilize the roads.
They were fun loads to haul and at that time were the largest loads ever hauled by a tractor trailer rig
If i get time i will fish through my photos at home and come up with some more to post.
thanks for posting them it brought back some good memories:drinkup

North slope

yes, at the time i was working for Shaughnessy Co. the heavy lift division of Crowley Maritime. it took about 8 hours to get the mods off the barge with all the ballesting that had to be done. when we set the mods on the ccp pad, they had to be set within an inch both in height and laterally. the height part is easy with the hydralics on the trailers, however the lateral part was a tough one. another interesting point is that the hydralics that lift the trailers and load (aobut 8.5 million #s) are powered by a 33 hp duitz (sp) engine. pretty amazing those hydralics.
i quit the slope in about 95 and have just recently went back to work there as a crane operator (both lifting and drilling) and will run the big trucks as well.. i just got home this week and will return on the 12th. it has changed a bunch!!!!! i'll go through some of my photos of the drill rig /module moves and see if i can scan and upload some.

Not a truck but still a BIG ONE. This is a Liebherr 995 mounted to a barge for dredging.
