john` I think you hit that one right on the noseI liked to try to read between the lines on company descriptions and their own batch of phrasing to make themselves look high tech. This is from the web site. How would you decipher what it means?
Kadant Inc. is a global supplier of high-value, critical components and engineered systems used in process industries worldwide. The Company’s products, technologies, and services play an integral role in enhancing process efficiency, optimizing energy utilization, and maximizing productivity in resource-intensive industries.
Look at all the key words! Someone in marking must have burned the midnight oil putting that paragraph together. To me it says they are in the business of finance buying up other people's technology and parading it out as their own, until it doesn't sell or work.
One of our contractors just got a 4000. I meat to go see it yesterday but didn't make it. I can't imagine that a tier 4 yarder engine would do so well with all the idle time.Bottom line, tier 4 compliancy killed the Madill log loader line as their 3000/4000 were garbage and they flat-out said they were not going to build a 172 in a tier 4 compliant format.
Be interesting to see what happens if Oregon does a tier 4 requirement like they tried to this year, the way we understood it no retrofits would be comply with the law they want.Bottom line, tier 4 compliancy killed the Madill log loader line as their 3000/4000 were garbage and they flat-out said they were not going to build a 172 in a tier 4 compliant format.

They said it will happen next session or nothing else will get done so we’ll have to see.I'm thinking initial cost and financing did more to kill production than anything else. How many loggers can justify the cost and secure a banker that will loan the cash on more than a million dollars of highly depreciable machinery especially with all the new production methods mentioned above.
Many might disagree with me but from what I've been told, the addition of DEF seems to have mitigated the idle operation problems and brought the fuel economy back up. Of course your savings in fuel will be eaten by the purchase and use of DEF.
I'm hoping the political temperature in Oregon has changed a bit since so many rural people opened the eyes of their politicians. Many of their elected reps found out that leaf lickers won't keep them from getting un-elected.
Our lovely governor and legislative bodies here in OregonWho is "they"?
John this was stated after the session was over, what stopped it was one party walking out of the house. Also in that Metro the tri county area there’s still a ton of logging still going we were in Washington county up off 26 when all of this took place and if it had we no longer would of been able to work in the Metro area. That second link was from July. There were demonstrations that halted that law from taking place. A group of rural formed and demonstrated in Salem and Portland. Check out the link below.

Perhaps it was a large layoff of people because of a lack of work. I doubt that sector of their business is very busy right now with all the mill closures and other issues in forest industry in the north west. The Madill product line is primarily sold in BC, Washington, Oregon, New Zealand and Australia. Unlike the barker line which is sold world wide, the madill line caters to a smaller clientele by comparison Just saying
