Great pics as usual Hayesno1. Seeing this paint scheme reminded me of a question that I have been meaning to ask the forum. Just north of Duncan on the Trans Canada Hwy - past the weigh scales there is an equipment yard full of highway trucks and other assorted logging equipment. Is this the old Hayes logging establishment? There was an off road truck in a yellow/green paint scheme parked along the south fence - it had seen better days. I've been meaning to stop by and take a pic of this unit, but just never got around to it. I now see that it is gone - anyone have any idea about this truck and where it may have gone to?

Does this truck have 1600x25 tires on it? They look a little bigger to me.

No just 14:00X25's Looks bigger because there are no ramps on the back of the truck when Hayesno1 took those pics. She is an old Crown Z truck Twin Turbo V12 GM 91,000 Clarks 60-51 Allison. She is hauling logs in Sarita right now and goes back and forth very well. She has been given a real good going over by the IPL mechanics in Chemainus A nice tight truck

I got your pm HDX. I am going to spend lots of time in the back roads around Chemainus/Cowichan this summer.

So was the H212 re-built right up the road from me at the shop near the Trans Canada Highway/MacMillan Bloedel Truck Haul Road? Was this the old Copper Canyon Division shop back in the day? I guess I'm sitting on a bit of a gold mine in this area and didn't even know it.

YES Leroy's bought the shop from M&B and dissasembled it and hauled it down to where it is now on Smiley road When they put it up they changed the configuration somewhat but it is still the old Canyon Shop. IPL ended up with H212 from TYmat along with a lowbed in some sort of a three way deal. The truck was taken into that shop and gone over pretty good . They worked hard on it to have it done for the 90th Anniversary show here in Alberni last july. After the show they low-bedded her back down and welded the ramps on the tailframe again At some time prior to IPL getting her somebody decided to cut the trailer loading ramps off the back end and throw them away because she was now a lowbed truck. However the owner saw the value in another preload truck that is more than capable of hauling wood and to tell you the truth she has worked every day for the last couple months and has not missed a beat. Not only that but the only thing done to her is the odd brake reline.

I hope this is not hijacking this thread. When I was in my early 20's (I'm 72 now ) a man from the PacNorWest told me that when he was a young man (he was in his late 50's at the time) he drove logging trucks that had water retarders and the head ache rack piping behind the cab was the cooler for the retarder. Is something that was common? I've used water dynos but they required lots of cooling area to remove the heat. As a retarder using water that would be a lot heat to remove

beavercove1977. I was going through my pics and saw her there. First off Welcome to the forum!!! Did she go there new? I think she went to auction when everybody was unloading the big trucks and going to highway trucks Didnt she spend some time down at Courtenay at the "Y". I seem to recall that Timberwaste had trucks from all over down there for a while back in the 90's and she might have been there. Not sure though

Hayesno1 40-140 was a BCFP truck from Renfrew Division but as you know after Fletcher Challange took over from BCFP and Crown Z those trucks went all over the place. You can tell the BCFP trucks by the winch mounted on top of the back of the water tank. They were the only ones that used this system Their earlier ones had the winch mounted down on the frame and had just a block up top till this version came out. It was designed by a BCFP Master Mechanic while sitting behind his desk thinking about fine tuning their preloads. Crown Z used the same style as M&B or maybe it was the other way around because they were preloading before most other outfits. We had the straight reach whereas BCFP used the folding reach. If you were a preload driver it was a little awkward to get use to the "Winch Trucks" but once on them you loved them Unit 40-140 went on to become IPL unit H160. She was at the Hayes 90th Show her last year with her driver Al Daschuck . She came originally with two sister trucks 138 139 and then her All were Renfrew Division trucks

HDX; thanks for great information as usual. Glad to hear she has survived. I've got some pics of IPL #H160 somewhere. Here some pics of a Pacific P12W dump truck (WFP Gold River Div)

Her original unit number was BCFP's 6-264 went to Renfrew Division new Then became 40-140 when Fletcher Challange re-numbered everything Then when they left it was Timberwest. Then the big garage sale happened and she was bought by Island Pacific Logging and rebuilt /repowered with a C15 Cat and renumbered H160 John Bell drove this truck for a little while so he would be the LAST of the BCFP drivers to actually drive her.

They must have been using it for pulling the lowbed. The stand for the air and water line is all wrong for a haul truck. Us loader operators would have that all bent out of shape in no time lol.

Bent out of shape? More like long gone over the bank. You know what they say about loggers........... Give him a ten ton steel ball at starting time, he's either lost it or broke it by lunch time.
