I put a 5th wheel hitch for sale on Craigslist, and when asked to deliver I ran it up there. I would not install it so I sent him to a reputable shop. The buyer was a foreign fellow who spoke english only by using his phone to translate. He had a smaller 5th wheel that he had brought up from California by using a gooseneck adapter to a bumper hitch ball.
He gets the hitch work done and asked for some help getting that adapter off.
I help him remove the adapter and get him set up, then look in the cab. No brake controller. Too old to have the integrated one, so yes, no brakes all the way from California to Washington.
I explained to him that he needed a brake controller, and sent him back to Ballew's in Tacoma after priming them over the phone. In truth, they should have caught that.
He texts me after he has headed south that he is not sure the brake controller is working, and I talked him through that too. In for a penny, or no good deed goes unpunished.
I hear back from him after he got down there that he and his sons made it safe and sound, and he was grateful for my help and that it towed so much better.
YOu're all welcome
