Thanks for the info. As a new member, I do not have permission to post attachments yet. Sorry.

My best guess on the engine type is a DXFE Hercules. I determined this from a few pictures I found on the web. My closest guess at this time. The tires are the 14.00-24's.
The front bumper is about 5 feet high and has 4 big holes in it, about 4" diameter each.

Thanks - John

Okay, I was talking to an old engine guy yesterday, and he said it was a lonnnnngggg time since he'd seen one, but he was pretty sure that the Hercules had a shutdown solenoid in the pump itself, similar to a Cat 1693. That big bumper with the holes makes them trucks look classy, I think. I have the parts book for the Knuckey bogie here somewhere....

Thanks. I was checking the injector pump yesterday with a guy who was somewhat familiar with some of the old stuff. He pointed out a knurled knob on the pump itself that is pulled out to stop the engine.

This means that the operator did not have the ability to shut the truck down from the cab. He would have to open the hood and pull the knob the shut this brute down. I'm surprised to find that this may be how they did it. Pretty inconvenient for an operator and a bit dangerous sticking your arm down along the running engine. I suppose it's quite a ways from the big fan though.

We couldn't find any control in the cab that would have shut down the fuel. I have been told the previous guys just stalled the motor with the brakes. Hmmmm.

Here are some photos of the KW 888. Does anyone recognize this model of the Hercules Diesel engine? My best guess is a DXFE. Appreciate any info on operation of this brute. John

That kw has a very cool look. with some modern running gear and a basket case of that style it would be a pretty sweet toy.

Oh my, what a fine truck. It must be preserved at all costs and certainly not 'street-rodded' with new parts. Until this example showed up i was unaware of any 888 in existence. I second your comment trakloader - don't change anything on that truck. Its too special to mess with and if that Hercules is still running or is able to made running - Wow, that would be awesome. Great job keeping her around.
Was she in the parade last weekend?

Thanks for the kind comments about the KW888 at the AK Museum. We will be keeping it original of course. We have many treasures here in AK and our mission is to preserve them.

The Hercules Diesel does still run I am told, but I am having trouble with the starter solenoid. I hope to get it going this month. Perhaps I'll post a youtube video if I am successful.

The local KW dealer located the original build order from 1947. This truck was reportedly used to haul debris out of Valdez in the aftermath of the 1964 quake in AK.

Dont know much about them, but I did work for them a a couple camps years ago.The office was at the Chilliwack,B.C. airport, they were a sister company to G & F Logging both owned by the Bowens. They logged for Interfor.Had a camp at Kwatna bay near Bella Coola. They used to put full page ads in the Truck Loggers Magazines years ago, promoting the 'cause' of logging.I'm pretty sure they've completely wrapped up,and listed gear with Forestech Equipment.Murk 100 would know,He worked for them . I have a couple slide shows of their stuff I was around on my early Youtube stuff a year ago.Todd

You could be right. I was scratching my head on this one - I first thought it was a Challenger.

Duke Point - Nanaimo

A fellow rider took a shot of this Kenworth out near Duke Point - near the ferry terminal. One of several For Sale, according to this individual.
