First picture: Hayes mud flap of the'50s. Has been shortened but this is what they looked like only 24 x 30.
Second picture: New style Hayes mud flap made by Firestone.
Last two pictures: Pick up and under front bumper mud flap and full length 24 x 30 standard Hayes mud flap from '70s with the bear.

Reg The mudflap with" HAYES Caution " on it was the standard mudflap on all Hayes truck from the very early 60's to 1971 then replaced by the "Bear flaps" If you ever get the chance look on the bottom of the BEAR FLAP and you will find a casting date just below the bears front foot It will be either first run (1972) or second run (1973) There was a flap made by Firestone that was the first flap with the bear on it and they were very heavy but just too expensive so Hayes changed manufactures in 1972 and went to the much lighter ones. I have a set but they are squirrel away and I put them in a safe place --So safe I cant find them, but I will find and post for the sake of historical accuracy

Nice shots of Kip Brown's/Malaspina trucks when they were working, none of them look that good a week ago. heard that they might be up for sale soon as they are in hard times right now, too bad as there was 5 or 6 HDX's in pieces around the yard.

Another HDX under a lowbed, looks like that is the only thing it will pull seeing the back end cut off, old Page and Page lowbed looked pretty worn out, all the suspension bushing rubbers were falling out (sorry no pics)
HDX 45-115 s/n 5340 believe it's Olympics unit.

Bob J. Bob James has loaned us his photo's to share the first picture is of his HDX Hayes that he drove when he contract log haul at T.W. MacKenie at Mesachie Lake . This morning at coffee Bob was telling me how in 1965 he was working at Copper Canyon the crew bus left camp at 5:00 oclock but the shops quiting time was 4:00 oclock . The company log truck weren't allowed to take riders . Reg Smyth had contract log trucks in the Divison . Bob use to jump in with Regs drivers to get to Chemainus. One day he got a ride in a brand new HDX Hayes ( he still had a sparkle in his eye as he told us about it ) in 1975 he bought that same HDX Hayes which is in the picture with Bob on the pigeon roof .scan571.jpg

Camptramp, when you see Bobby James again, ask him if he remembers "Dark Brown"(don't ask) as that would be me. You have to know Jim Jordan to know about all the names LOL

I think I have a picture of this truck on here somewhere, it sat in Dinan Bay for a coon's age, with that same drill on the back. I heard they barged it south recently.

Oh Ya forgot to mention that H85 has/had a 6 cyl Rolls Royce engine in her instead of the 300HP Cummins that all the off-set cab first series HD's came with.

HDX,do you know the history of the trailer on the back of the H-17? I ask because so much equipment has been shuffled around that I wonder if you have a CZ trailer.our trailers had a number such as 42-143 or 42-144 on them.I cannot remember where but I think it was on or near rear bunk.

No Not Crown "Z" Was a 60 ton Pacific trailer to start with then the driver that was using it really screwed it up!!! He is no longer driving now Believe it or not it is part Pacific and part Di Ico remember him from Nanaimo. Your Crown Z trailers would not fit my truck because of kingpin size IPL is standardizing all the trailers to the big pin now All the BCFP folding reach trailers as well and they are changing the jaws in the 5th wheel at the same time Long slow process. The worst trucks we ever had were the three big P16's with the V12 cats A lot of drivers not familiar with them would use the wrong lever to try and load the trailer up onto the back of the truck and rip the kingpin out of the trailer Remember TWO levers one for the rear deck assy and the other one for the 5th wheel Lots of wrong lever ###K Ups

I do remember the levers. I had 3 in the 87. The third lever raised and lowered the ramps on the lowbed as I was hooked to it so often. Have you noticed if there are any CZ trailers in your lineup?
