I will try to quote some of the stories I was told by a driver and loader operator. The loaded trucks pup trailer would wonder side to side so you had to pull deep into the pullouts when clearing for them and hope it was enough not to get hit, that was one of the reasons so many loads were lost along the haul road. It was all HDX trucks at first and with the 91 diffs, they would get 3 or 4 months out of those diffs, a barge would come in once a month with 50 tires, 50 rims and several diffs. They had lots of porcupines there and when they were running the bias ply tires you tried to avoid them, then they got the Michelins on the steers that the quills didn't harm so then you aimed for them to save the drive tires. They had a contracture do the tires there. When the Kenworths came with the turbo 12's and 121 diffs they didn't loose to many diffs with them. The flare on the tips of the stakes were to aid in loading at the lake where lifted out the loads, sometimes these trucks were getting loads from the loaders doing right of way and the operators said once you got to the top of the stakes then you could start building a good load.I am almost out of Saunders pictures, I never heard any stories but my guess they were hard on iron.... You could add to that thought please...
