Old Chevy C60 with Air brakes... mystery lever

I just picked up a 69 C60 dump truck to move some dirt around the ranch. There's a lever on the left side of the dash labled "Truck Tractor Protection". It has two positions, left labeled "normal" and right "emergency". It leaks air in the normal position but seems to work fine in the...

6 Lug Budds to replace 20" split rings

Local tire shop tells me he wasn't familiar with anything that would replace the split ring 20" wheels on out old ranch 2 ton '80 F600. 20" tube type tires are geeting hard to find and no one around here will mount them. I heard of folks replacing them with 22.5 tubeless but I cannot find a...

Mahindra 4530 vs 'Old Iron' MF Workbull

My old faithful MF-203 'Workbull' tractor/loader has finally layed down for the last time I believe. Something in the clutch has let loose. After 20+ years of ownership it's hard not to repair her but the old gal just needs too much... tires, brakes, pins/bushings... Although the rebuilt...

    UV protection for hyd hoses

It seems to me that hose rubber doesn't last as long as it used to. I have several fairly new hydralic hoses that are cracking and decaying badly. I would have thought "Gates" hose would last longer than a year or two. I'm wondering if painting them would protect them. I figure since my...

    Air brakes

I'm looking to buy an old school bus to convert into a RV. Knowing nothing about air brakes I thought I might need to do a little research before I make a purchase. What area of the system should one be concerned ? I've found one '92 ford chassis 71 passenger Carpenter that had a 5.9...

    Geo fabrics under road base

I have about 400 feet of drive to cut and redo on my property. Native soil is black gumbo silt that has little load bearing properties when wet. Previous owner(s) layed all sorts of trash material (busted brick, washout...) which is disappearing into the muck. I've heard of using fabric...

    84 F600 Hydro boost?

We have an old '84 F600 we use on the ranch from time to time and last week I noticed it had brake "issues". I've been searching for an explanation of how the hydro boost system works and have come up with nothing. Can someone explain this to me? What the heck is that electric motor at...

    Link Belt excavator ?

I've located a '85 Link Belt excavator for sale. Not sure of the model however the seller says it is a 45Klb machine. Any idea what it might be and what to look out for other than the normal wear stuff? He made some comment about the idlers being loose allowing the track to roll off. I've...

Small excavation job in North Texas

I'm not sure if this is the proper place for this post or not... I've sort of 'dug myself into a hole' attempting to dig a 50x60 foot 9 foot deep basement hole with my small backhoe. I've got maaybe 60% of it done but have other duties taking up my time now so I'm looking for someone in the...

    Dewatering hydraulic fluid

I found 15 gallons of milky hyd fluid in my backhoe. Changed the filters and fluid but I suspect the hoses and cylinders will hold a fair amount that I cannot get out. My plan is to run it and change the fluid again. I hate to waste 30 gallons of hydraulic fluid if there's a way to dry it...

    Brute trailers

Anyone familiar with this company? Ebay ad is a bit vague and I was unable to locate a website. They are not too far from me so, I may have to go shopping. Looks good from what I read here though... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320199489390&indexURL=0#ebayphotohosting

    Pintle to gooseneck swap possible

I have a 10 ton pintle trailer that I would like to be able to tow with the 1 ton dually. Tongue weight is too much for a pintle on the 1 ton. If it could be converted to a gooseneck I'd get a lot more use from it. Is this possible? The current axle position is about 80% to the rear I...

    Digging in limestone

I'm digging a hole and got into soft rock that's getting harder at about four feet. Need to go another four if possible for the basement. Is there a universal breaker for old equipment available? Dynamite?

What lube for a Clark 5 spd?

I suspect the wrong fluid may be in the Clark 285V73 transmission since the PTO was removed and replaced with a cover plate by the PO. It smells/feels like 90w. Someone told me it used ATF??? Anyone know what is recommended for this 5 speed? It's in a 80 F600.

    IH 2400 backhoe/loader

Anyone familiar with this machine? It has a U1111 backhoe and a U9111 loader. I believe it may be the equal to the ag IH 454. It has a D179 three cylinder diesel. Seller says it hasn't run in a yr or two. I've yet to see it run. My plan is to use it around the farm. Price is $3K...
