Thanks....I wanted to build something different.Car is a fairly accurate tribute/clone/fake...Nothing in it that isn't needed and it's even a push button start.No ignition switch just switches and buttons...26 Trans/Am Mustangs were made in 67

My 36 Diamond T 212BD...My dad bought it in 1968.I inherited the truck in 88...Resto by me...Soon to be repowered again with a Cummins 4BT with a Spicer 5spd.

Yes..I look forward to finally getting it finished.It took me 20 years to find a grille for it.Truck is a deluxe and the grille is chromed.It is also a one pc stamping and the are quite often damaged..The grille was a major hold up on the truck...

My Grizzly Truck..First one built of 13 trucks.I have a large thread in the Forestry Equipment thread on this site.....Built in North Vancouver in 1990.

Had to thread these two blank holes in the drive gear for the 6 bolt hub . I figured the gear would be hard as a rock but it tapped out fine .

Tapped & capped off the oil drain holes in the main housing . Used 3/8 NPT fittings .

Also plugged off an oil passage on the front bearing cover & added another on top as this 6-71 was built to operate on it's side in the Detroit Diesel and we are converting it over to a gas engine .

Referenced off the front bolts on the intakes to get measurements . Looks like it will fit around the side ok but still have a little height issue . Distributor is 7" tall and the underside of the blower is 6 - 3/4 " .

Little disappointed in the " Speedmaster " blower intake ...... Was supposed to clear the Ford distributor .

Made a template out of an old Simplex concrete form . Ply form is 1 1/8 " thick . Drop it off at the local machine shop so they can fab one out of aluminum .
That should remedy the problem .

Part of me is temped to just run the wood spacer plate . It would probably work fine . Dropped a micrometer on the ply form and was with in .005 :)100_4223.JPG

Got the rotors triple pinned . Used some generic linkage pins we had in stock . Ground down the head & hammered the sides to swell the pin for a snug fit in the 1/4 inch hole . Locktite & drive them in then peened the hole using a 3/8 bolt as a punch . De-burr it with a die grinder .[/ATTACH] 100_4233.JPG 100_4232.JPG 100_4237.JPG

Pull a couple freeze plugs out of the rotor ends & blow the shavings out then drove them back in.

Seals showed up so starting to go back together . Detroit bearings looked fine so they are going back in . Still waiting on the new rear bearing plate .

Going to try the wood " spacer plate " . Coated all the edges with JB weld epoxy . Seen wood used before under the carb as a heat shield .

Opened up the "Pop off " port & installed an 1/8 inch port for a boost gage .
Used 1/4 " aluminum for the Pop plate & old Detroit 8 - V 71 valve springs .

Rear bearing & carb plates showed up this evening . Pretty happy with DPI products . It all fit great & rotors spin free . They even sent dowel pins & hardware .:cool:

Got the 6-71 installed . Everything hooked up with exception of the " Drive kit " . It should show up in a few day's .

Went with twin Edelbrock 600 vacuum secondary's . Carb linkage went better then expected . Just used scrap we had in the stock to build it .

Cut the hole in the hood & trimmed it with 1" aluminum angle .

Added a vacuum / boost gage on the rear bearing plate of the blower .

In the " hurry up & wait stage " now on the drive kit .:)

Engine specs .
1968 Ford 302 2V with 117,000 miles on it . 210 HP & 300 foot pound torque . 9 to 1 compression ratio .

GMC 6-71 " small bore " blower with 7 % underdrive .

Distributor area is snug on this intake but was happy that I can get the cap off & even pull the distributor out with addition of the spacer .100_4283.JPG 100_4273.JPG 100_4276.JPG

They sure do have a distinctive " whine " to them . Only vehicle I can really hear it good on is the GMC wrecker . It has a pretty good muffler plus 1/3 of the engine is in the cab just under the fiberglass cover .

I went with the 8 millimeter cog belt & pulleys for the Ford project verses the old 1/2 inch pitch dive . It's supposed to be a little tougher .

The other interesting thing I thought was they don't use the harmonic balancer . Just a steel " drive hub " . I reckon the big belt drive takes care of the " Harmonic Harmony " :)

My 68 302 is external balance 28 ounce counterweight hub. This is not the one we ordered but it's similar .

Missing my car :(

Sure know that feeling ! Sold off all the muscle cars in the early 1990's & started buying yellow iron that we could earn a little cash with .

Then last summer as I'm driving though town one car caught my eye at a used car dealer . Drove past it a few day's & then called them about the story on it .....

It had a long story , car lot owner's dad bought it new in 68 . For one reason or another it got parked in a garage in 1982 and there it set until we woke it back up after the 35 year nap . Bought it " dead " & got it back on the road last fall .

Car drives & rides great like they did back in that era .

We gonna have some fun with it :D

Cool project...I like the way you trimmed the hood cut out...I have not seen Salad bowl (velocity stacks) air cleaners in decades..


It was pretty funny ....:D The Old Man & myself went a few rounds on how best to trim out the hood ..... He insisted on aluminum angle trim around the hood hole . I thought about going with wood trim molding around it .

It came out ok but don't tell Dad I said that .:)

I really like the look of the Velocity stacks . Probably not the best filter system but they look cool & somewhat period of the car's time .

No...they are not the best filters but I don't think you will have any issues getting air into the engine..The problem with the stacks is they are not back fire friendly.Same as the old Edelbrock triangle filters..
Is that a vacuum gauge on the back of the manifold ??

Yes , it's tied in to the main plenum under the 6-71 . Reads vacuum and boost .
