Hey all,

Looking for some help on our John Deere 310g Backhoe.

Backhoe started and ran for a few days, when we shut it down for the day and went to start the next morning, the starter would fire but not stay engaged. We figured the batteries were dead, we charged them up still no good. we replaced the batteries.... still not the problem, so we replaced the Starter... still not the problem. BATTERIES WERE ALWAYS OVER 12.7 v

looking for some advise.

Thanks Joe.

Sounds like a cable issue. Starter fires, battery voltage at the starter drops under load, till the solenoid drops out.

Check the battery ground. Then cable connections at connectors. Look for corrosion or scorch marks.

Would appreciate it when you finally sort out the problem to post the fix.

Hey just had a Diesel Mechanic come take a look. Took him a total of 5 minutes, the Trombetta Valve was stuck closed. Simply plunged it up and down manually and lubricated. Backhoe started and runs fine.

Thanks for posting what the problem was.
In all the years I have worked on starters I never knew that the style of solenoid on your John Deere is a Trombetta valve !

I've never heard of that brand "Trombretta", but an Ebay search brings up lots of results. Glad it got sorted out.
