Yes- I think he has what I need, I just wanted to get mine apart- to make sure the parts are right. The part #'s are not the same, but if everything measures out the same, I'm going to have him send me the ring and pinion that he has.

I had to think on it a little while to figure out what time it needs to be here- so I can call him there. I think if I call at 4:00 in the afternoon here, that will be 9:00-10:00 in the morning the next day there.

I struggle a little with the idea that today is tomorrow out there, but I'm kind of simple sometimes.

In other news- thanks to junkyard, he came by and bought lunch for me today. Went up on the strip and had a brisket lunch and it was good, so good that I think I'll need to lay around in the A/C this afternoon to digest it.

He's going to have to run around an chase kids on vacation, good luck to him- and thanks again for lunch.

If it helps, right now it is 9:30am on Sunday. So in 24 hours from now, it should be the perfect time to call

I really don't want to just put the rear one back together with the damage done to it, but if the numbers don't work to get parts here, its getting the teeth polished up and its going back together.

If the current option is to reuse the damaged parts it would be money well spent to get the parts NDE tested ( crack detected)

Got to put the jib on the galion monday and set some trusses. It was really steep and a little flat spot right in front of the house. Choice between galion and jib right next to the house, or 25 ton with jib and stinger and setting up on a really steep driveway at 110' radius. No way to get anything bigger down the road to the house.

I could even see one of my other cranes working up the hill. Clint had the mack up there putting steel beams on the other side of a house.

In other news, another car missed the shop corner last week, they didn't take out the curve sign, because someone got it the night before, and left their headlights, and a bunch of undercarriage plastic fender type stuff scattered in the driveway and ditch.

Daughter came upon the blue car, let the gal use her phone to call for a ride, popped the air bags in the car.

Someone had called 911 so a highway patrolman showed up. My daughter found him wandering around in my building, looking for the driver, and accused my daughter of hiding her- or being the driver of the car, drinking and driving, selling drugs, everything.

Cop told my daughter she shouldn't be sneaking up on a cop in a building, daughter wondered why he was in the building in the first place. My wife went down to see what was up, and informed the cop that I was on the way with the truck and lowboy loaded, and if he was in the driveway when I showed up, the little blue car wouldn't be the only damaged thing on the yard. He found someplace else to hang out.

County is on the ball, they already have the curve sign back up. You can kind of see the black marks on the pavement where they straddled it.

From the last pic … Looks like the curve crests the hill, and the road is off camber too from the erosion... Needs some serious regrading. Might be an opportunity for some dirt work.

My daughter was scared and shook up after it all. The cop was really young, and I realize everyone lies to them, but the car is sitting in our shop driveway, and my daughter drove her own truck down there. The cop just had to run the plates to find out whose car it is.

He even tried to bully the wife around a little on why there wasn't any guys around in the shop. She told him we are in and out all day, and when my mechanic showed up, knowing I was right behind with the lowboy, she told him to get off the property.

At least his supervisors need to know exactly what he is doing when he is out and about.

I would tread somewhat lightly, though, you don't want to get yourself or your property branded back at the cop shop as someone to not bother helping when the chips are down because they see you as being a jerk toward them.

Best to be on speaking terms with people higher up in the department and handle it informally I should think.

Unfortunately a lot of cops are on a power trip and this sounds like a new cop too. He should be reported for harassment and even though he's a cop, possibly trespassing. It's no different than accusing someone of theft with no evidence just because they were in the vicinity. A store owner/employee can get in trouble for this. If nothing is done it's going to go further to his head and he'll get worse. Cops are being scrutinized a lot lately because of shootings, harassment and other issues. I somehow don't think he would have acted the same way if you or your mechanic had been there. Sorry but this young cop was acting like a jerk. I don't know how old your daughter is but if she's under 20 it would be pretty traumatizing. Then to pull the same crap on your wife???

Made some ruts the other day getting in and out of a resort, we kind of walked them down while they were wet, but I think they are going to have to do a little landscaping. Funny thing is last time I came from the parking space in there, that was the softer area, this time it was below the tree that was soft, and I came out the upper side and it was pretty solid. Its kind of hard to see from the pictures, but I was down about 8" or so in the ruts, I could feel it walking down in while backing up, but I knew stopping in the middle would be a recipe for disaster, so I just kept rolling through it.

Third members front and rear for my 70 ton crane, are supposed to be going on the slow boat from New Zealand to me. They are saying 42 days from there to here. I have a bad ring and pinion in the rear rear, the front diff actually has a ton of wear on its ring and pinion also, from having a bearing that ate into the ring gear carrier. I could maybe make up one decent diff from the ring and pinion of the front diff, with the carrier from the rear diff. But that doesn't really get me very far.

I'm just going to say also, the internet is a amazing thing. I've found diff.s in a wrecker yard in New Zealand for a 60,000 lbs rear with Isuzu axles for a crane here in the states. A bunch of pictures and measurements and I think we actually have the right stuff. I may have to change input yokes, but I'm hoping that's all. I wish it was a little sooner than 42 days, but there's nothing I can do about that.

My son helped out at an accident last night as well. He came upon a driverless horse and buggy running down the centre of a county road heading for the highway, he passed it, directed it down a gravel road then passed it again and directed it into a field then caught up to it and grabbed the lines and drove it to the closest Mennonite farm where they searched the back seat for evidence of who owned it. Turned out that it had come 5 blocks. The Mennonite farmer was shocked to see a young guy driving the horse, but my boys could drive a team of draft horses by the time they were 10

Been playing egyptian- hand moving a bunch of steel. Kind of.

The mack is all I can get into the jobsite, and we can just get the steel over there, but can't reach all of the deck to install it. They're adding steel and pan deck to a old wood deck. Lower deck is probably 20' off the ground, upper another 12' or so up.

So how do you lift something up below your feet with nothing above you? I- beams are up tight to the bottom of the old wood joists.

Here's what I came up with for quick and dirty, I put the fold up engine hoist on the deck and dropped a come a long. I put another come along on the other side of the big beam, off the upper deck.

We've done a bunch of other monkey-arounding with chain come a longs and pry bars. I'm hoping to set the rest of it by monday/tuesday.

Biggest beam is just under 1,000 lbs. We're like 10' radius from reaching it with the crane.

We've just been supplying the gear and the crane and some help to the carpenters and the welders.
