Madill 4800 Log Loader - rollover

Zeballos BC, Jan 1997
Some punchings the machine was walking on gave way and the 4800 rolled sideways onto a log pile. The cab took the brunt of the fall. The window guard held but the whole cab was bent over, causing the door to be jammed and trapping the operator until window guards were removed. A WCB escape hatch was added to the door to ensure that the operator couldn't be trapped inside the cab.

Lowering 90 ft tower in Longview, Washington June 1997

Installed counterbalance valves prior to lowering tower. Shows how far the tower has to travel on the lowering winches before it could be supported by the raising cylinder.

075 Line Loader from Tasmania, Australia, being off-loaded at docks

Sep 1994 - the 075 came all the way from Tasmania for a rebuild at Madill's Nanaimo shop. It required more work than what was estimated in Australia so the job was quite long and expensive. Three trucks to move the machine - first truck for upperworks, second truck for cab, boom, and gantry, and the third truck for the rubber tire carrier.

The loader in picture is the #16-23 an updated Model 6 Northwest assembled by Madill on a Madill Rubber Tire carrier . Delivered to BCFP Renfrew Div. in the mid 1970's . As the Mainline and Opening line brakes were air over mechanical , setting a log down on a load was usually rather rough , the Machine was referred to as "The Pile Driver" .
