It probably doesn't matter and I think I understand now how to add it, but I was unclear in my wording that I buy my diesel fuel in 5 gallon cans not the anti-gel stuff.
Environmental regs are so tight here, the days of water getting into old underground tanks are over. Haven't had water in fuel for years. The Irving family has pretty much put a stop to mom and pop gas stations. For me I installed Arctic Fox tank heaters, most of my destinations were in British Columbia and I didn't trust any fuel anywhere, and still don't.

If #1 diesel exists here, I've never heard of it. My sister was manager of a fuel dealer, she had never heard of it. I've never seen it for sale.
Those I've talked to, dealers, and consumers agree we have summer fuel same as #2 furnace fuel, winter fuel, cut with kerosene, and similar mixes for on road.
What dealers sell at a given time is suitable for machines that will use the fuel in a short time. Mixed fuel begins to go into dealers tanks in December. Where the tank is half full, it may mix to a low ratio of kerosene. Still, it is OK for fuel to be consumed immediately, it ain't all that cold in December.
That's what 8V-92's were for... keeping the fuel warm.It wasn't necessarily water that I was concerned about, keeping the fuel warm
