Torkelh:

Do you have a clearer copy of the Model 88 brochure. I'm planning on doing one of these in 1/25 scale for my collection and would love to get a copy of that for the rough dimensions.

I don't have that brochure, but you should be able to get good dimensions from the shop manual if you can find someone in your area having an 88 (try Andeson Logging, they had at least an 88). I have blown up the pictures somewhat, hope that is for at least a little help for you, good man! I also have pictures of couple of 88's, let me know if it's some special details you need and I will see what I may have.

Question to Walt Vandegrift

Neat old 1964 Loggers World scan regarding the Washington yarder.

His company bought both Skagit and Washington equipment.

I asked him at one point why he preferred Washington yarders. He said that while both machines were more than capable of doing the job, he liked the Washington better because it seemed to run "smoother" to him.

Nobody at the factory could explain this to me, and they said it could be that they liked the salesman better or something like that, but Walt was very polite and probably wanted to spare me the real reasons.

I should have some specs (just a faxed photocopy) and some photos. H&W in Cannyonville, OR had one working last april, some of a yarder, and that shouldn't be to far from you if you have the possibility to go up there. I have some video of that machine but it's not any close up. I will go through and look for photos of Wash 88's and EDCO's for you tomorrow night!

I worked on and around a new Washington in the early 80's. It had some early issues that required the attention of the Washington mechanic.

Got to talk with the mechanic quite often. One of my questions was why there was such a difference between the GT3 Skagit that was used prior
to the Washington. He said that the drums on the Washington were balanced, this might have a lot to do with how smooth it ran.

I told him that the Skagit sounded like a rock crusher running. He smiled and said apples and oranges!
