I totally agree I'd rather work on the boom , I worked on a bundled boom in the spring of 1968 it was quite an enjoyable job compared to the flat booms , a flat boom is made up of individual logs , a bundled boom was made up of bundled logs five bundles wide , a swifter cable was pulled across each row of bundles and one dog like device was driven into one log in each bundle.
There was a fellow by the name of Larry Jay who use to run a log loader at Sooke for Pacific Logging , the loader was a Buyciris Erie top on a rubber tire Skagit under carriage , he was unbelievable he would pull into a landing be putting his jacks down talking on the two way radio and grabbing the first log at the same time. I think his load average was around 12 off highway loads a day.

I had my models out for some fun today so I took a few pictures of my "tribute trucks". The Hayes is all finished on the outside now with the exception of the M&B decals and hopefully some chrome Hayes ones for the hood. The Malloch KW is 1/10 scale, the M&B Hayes is 1/14.

I had an interesting conversation today. I was in Ladysmith and I noticed an immaculate '59 Dodge truck angle parked on 1st Ave. I couldn't help but ask the driver about the truck. We made introductions and he said he was Vic Rowlinson. I smiled and said that I know who you are - even though we've never met. I told him that he used to haul from my Sparmatic side back in the late '70s out in Sproat Lake Division - you drove a green Kenworth. He said all his trucks were always green..... We shared names of people we knew and what had become of them. Another meeting of good old boys from Port Alberni from the forest industry - they're everywhere. Boy, he's done a beautiful job on that restoration - too bad I didn't have my camera with me.
