I had an outfit that says they have a manual for my lift for $99. Does anyone have any thoughts? I did give them my serial number as well as the model number. Also, got the engine rebuild done and fired the engine up today. We will tweak it next week to get it smoothed out, but I am excited that I am getting it done. Also, I have a simons aerial at40c that is throwing me in for fits now. It seems to be a simple lift, but boy does this old stuff give me heartburn......

Simple.....my guys had the engine out in 45 minutes. Hardest part was getting the hood off.....pretty straight forward.

It has the Onan engine. Just figured out yesterday, that the Onan was not putting out enough electricity. When I put jumpers on from my pickup, the lift started working fine (except for the steering which I am ordering new solenoids - those puppies were expensive - I did not have a brand to hunt a substitute). Looks like your machine is in decent shape. My is not pretty, but as soon as I get it running smoothly, I will have it painted. Do you have a place to get parts?

I don't have one, I have always wanted one. The photo is one that sold for $2300.00
I missed out on the sale.
I did find one for $500 but the F350 running gear had been replaced with a cobbed-up
installation of 2WD components. I passed.

What is all needed to be done to be able to tow a JLG 40G lift, 4wd? unlock hubs, open steering valve. Anything else? How fast can it be towed?
Thanks

Don't forget the tow bar. Going on memory, but I think JLG recommended a max speed of 10 mph.

I just got a 40G 4wd. Checking things over on it and was wondering what type of hydraulic oil do you use in it? Does anyone have any info on the hydraulic hoses on it, like lengths or do you just get them custom made.

I've got nothing on the 40G. They were only made for 3 or 4 years in the early 80's and never that many made.

Even the parts manuals won't tell you hose lengths and fitting types, just the JLG part number. You'll have to get them custom made "as per sample" unless you can find a JLG dealer or serviceman who hung onto thier 40G stuff and still has the build sheets.
For oil they used HVI-22 hydraulic as a middle of the road. Colder climates HVI-15, hot spots HV-32. They'll also work just fine on ATF or even motor oil like 0W30 if you can get a deal on one of those.
Most parts you'll need won't be unique to the 40G so you should be able to find them.

Just purchased a used JLG 40F lift and have some switch issues. The valves work manually but the switches do not operate some of the valves. Can someone point me in the right direction for a copy of the manual for wiring and hydraulics?

Thank you.

Time to get back to work on my JLG 40F. I have two problems one is with a leaky solenoid whitch also has a small rod or button that has popped out on the top of it. The other problem is it does not always turn left. I don't know if the two problems are related. Still in need of prints.

Click on my username at the left Birk7, it will open a menu where one of the choices is "send private message". Send me a PM with your email address and I'll forward you some info on the 40F.

welcome back. Now that you've made 3 posts the PM feature is activated and we can send you stuff. :)

It is very possible the leaky solenoid you speak of is a Racine solenoid valve controlling your steering. However, Check your toggle switch and make sure you have power output from there all the time. Always check the simple things first - start at the first link in the chain (toggle) and work your way down.
