Hey fellas I am in the market to buy a newer single axle dump truck. I have been looking into the freightliner m2-106 because I don't have my class one. I live in
Canada and the course to be able to haul over 10k on a trailer with an air brake rig, is 15k and 8 week course, and I'm too busy to take the course. I have my heavy trailer endorsement and air brake endorsement, but it leaves me having to purchase a truck with juice brakes, if i want to haul my Cat 259D with the cat 305. I currently own a 2003 gmc c5500 and its been a decent truck after i replaced the engine in it... but I need something that will be able to haul both machines decent. does anyone have any other suggestions on other medium duty trucks ? does anyone run a freightliner m2-106 with a 7 yard box hauling 26-28k lb.'s ? my trailer I have will hold both machines has a payload of 29k on the deck. The combined weight of the trailer with both machines on there, will have a net weight of 27,000lb. i am open to suggestions how do people feel about the M2 is it a pretty capable truck?

What year is it. We have 6 of them, but they are tandems. Someone calls them M2 many modules. Everything has a module. They do the job, but they will never last as long as our old Internationals did.

A lot of stupid stuff. Our newest one is a 2021. They guy that hauls the tag along float in my crew. He had a signal light out on the tag. Changed the bulb, still nothing. Dropped it at the shop to have it looked at, hooked onto another tag, same problem. Must be the truck. Turned out to be a module $150 bucks. Dash cluster module, HVAC module. It's not something that puts you out of business, just get a good electrical book once the warranty is done. Our 21 seems ok, just DEF stuff. Sensors mostly. They all have Cummins engines with an 8LL, except the new on is an automatic.

WWW.
All these later trucks have multiplex wiring run through a cab controller/controllers. When it comes
to anything related to lighting issues the first thing to do is disconnect the main ground from
battery wait 15 minutes and reconnect/to reboot system. These systems can go haywire with
a phony glitch. I have it happen all the time, all marker lights blinking on bottom row of trailer.
Reboot and won't happen again for several months or never. Nature of the beast. You can monkey
around checking all sorts of crap and get no where or spend money and get no where. If there
truly is a problem like a short it will remain after installing ground. If it's in the trailer you will
need a remote 7 wire setup hooked to a battery bypassing the truck/tractor to troubleshoot.

yeah fair enough have you had any experience with the Kenworth T280 ? I would imagine there all fairly similar with the module's running a lot of function's and having some electrical issues now a days.

This thing has a seperate box for trailer lights, almost like a tractor. Complete cable running back along the frame along side the cable for the trucks rear lights. Your trick probably would have worked, but it was warranty, and Freightliners guy just yanked the old one and put in a new. A lot of electrical components out in the open as well. One under the floor on the drivers side with 2 or 3 big plugs into it. No protection. The windshield washer tank under the fender by the bumper. I think all of the trucks have had issues with the spray pump. Not a good setup to run in the winter with all the salt. Not saying they are a bad truck. I think most of them have almost 300,000KMs on them which is not bad for short haul trucks.

The Freightliners have replaced the aging fleet of Internationals. There are still 2 on the list, a 94 and a 96. Grossly under powered, but have probably made a lot of money over the years. I had the 96 out for a delivery last summer, and it still runs down the road good. The tractors are all western stars except for a Pete, a Paystar, and a Sterling. No KWs
