How do I remove the master pin on my IH 175b tracks? I need to replace the track adjuster seals and have to remove the tracks first. It has master pins instead of links.

I don't know if the IH will be the same, but on my cats the master pin has a raised dimple/boss on it. Drive your tractor until this pin is on your drive sprocket, heat up the links around it and drive it out with a heavy hammer and punch. It may take quite a bit of hammering and heat but it will eventually come out. Then you can drive the machine forward and the track will pull itself off the top and lay down on the ground. To reinstall, simply place the track back up on your top rollers and join it again back at the sprocket. Heat the links up nice and hot, and then the pin should go back in relatively easily once everything is lined up. Sometimes it helps to also put the master pin in the freezer to make it shrink a bit more.
Hope this helps.

Corn binder master pins are dimpled in the center. You will know what it is when you see it. They were always pretty easy to heat and beat compared to a Cat. The press fit was about a third of what you get on a Cat track. Remember to release the track adjuster first and get it all the way back in the track frame. We also always broke the track under the front idler. We would put a block down and drive the machine just on the pad forward of the master pin taking the pressure off the chain over the idler. When you get the pin out, you can back up the machine slowly pulling the track back just far enough to clear the idler. Now you don't have to try and pick up the track and manually pull it back over the entire track frame. When your are ready to make the track back up, just hook the end pad with a chain and use your bucket to pull the track as you inch forward. On machines with blades I used a chain come along.

Hopefully that will save you a little work.

Good Luck!
