It sounds like the guy that helped you is a pretty decent person and won't figure you owe him. He was likely happy to help you and would do.............
Yes, he seems like a good person, though I've had little encounter with him. He became more friendly after I bought the excavator. Never talked to me before that.
He owns the marina at the lake at the bottom of the hill and we've started renting boats for our summer excursions. He always gives us a 50% discount because we're neighbors.
I wish I could say the same for all neighbors. In 2016, a developer bought tax foreclosed land across the road from us and built McMansions. The first couple that moved in called the cops on us the very first time I turned on my stereo since their arrival. This started becoming a regular thing until I had it out with the cop one afternoon (yes, it was 5pm when the new neighbors called in a "noise complaint".) Since they could do nothing, they sold the house in 2020 and another couple moved in. The new people seemed nice at first but the husband seemed to become a real jerk almost overnight. Not sure what happened to cause the change, but he became belligerent and now we just don't talk to eachother anymore.
The house next door, up the hill from me, the original owner died and eventually some Hispanics bought it, fixed it up, and unsuccessfully tried to sell it for a year. Then they gave up and moved in. 6-7 cars out front, 17 people in all, living in that tiny cottage, which was originally a vacation cottage that an old couple owned until the late 1960s while I was building my house. So far, they don't cause any problems, other than loud Mariachi music on holidays.
Meanwhile, the mechanic said all the lines are ready, but he's waiting on a banjo bolt.
I got my reupholstered seat back from Federal ($525) and no await the reassembly of the excavator.
Sorry to hear you have some flakey neighbors. I moved out to the woods 58 years ago to get away from such people, but they always have a way of catching up.
