camptramp, seeing those Doman trucks reminds me of a guy I worked with, Russ Burrard, told me he was fueling up some old POS truck he was driving when Herbie Doman came up to him and asked if he new any drivers looking for work, Russ asked what he had to drive, Herbie said new Hayes cabover right over there. Russ said he reached in and grabbed his lunch kit and walked over and got in the Hayes, left the fuel nozzle in the tank spout and truck sitting right there.

Very nice picture camptramp The two HD's on the end both came with no power steering, They came with "center-point" steering front hubs. Their numbers were Doman unit's 272 and 273 Truck number 273 was destroyed in a motor vehicle accident in Duncan many years later. Very little was salvaged from her, Her frame was cut off behind the cab and Doman's kept the back end for the rear ends The rest of her was sold to Rich Bennett and he got whatever he could out of her. As for old 272 on July 9th 1992 Sarge Bawa the fellow looking after all their trucks phoned me and said Bring a bag full of money and we will trade! 272 has been replaced by a new Kenworth and we are thinking of putting 272 back to work on other bull cooking jobs, if you changed your mind and don't want her. I was there in two hours with the bag of money. Sarge left the plates on her so I could drive her home to Alberni then when he came up fishing the next week he stopped by and picked them up. Sure was a good bunch of guys there. Sarge made arrangements with Kal Tire to put some tires on her and I paid John from Kal for them because by this time they were not Domans anymore they were Trans Isle Freightways and they didn't own the tires on any of the trucks Kal Tire had the contract to maintain all the tires on all the trucks and trailers for them. Blk prince can fill in some of the details on that because he worked there till he pulled the pin

When new, these two came with no brush guards due to weight. Both brush guards and power steering were added later. Trans Isle Freightways was a subsidiary of Doman Industries. The paint schemes were changed and these were their new colours. These pictures were taken the day I picked her up.

She is looking good! It is amazing how you keep adding this or that and how much better the truck looks. Another one that you have to be proud of. It seems to be all the more important to keep some of these old girls for the next generation to see and hopefully enjoy as much as we do! Thanks for sharing the pictures and updates with us, HDX!!!

re Edmonton RB auction Sept 2016

I see there is a 6x6 Hayes hd s/n 6023094, I remember these trucks when they were for sale by Catre Equipment in the lower mainland. I remember they had some with cranes and 2 as tractors as well as a 6x6 KW and a 6x6 Pacific. I think they did power line work. I was just wondering if anyone has any history on these trucks or remembers them. I see there is also a hd bed truck on this auction too.
