Dont let this truck get away For 1500 bones . Post a few pics of it if you can. go and see the guys that holds the paper on it and make sure you get first refusal if in fact it does go up for sale Post some pics. Look on the left hand door top corner-- and the top right hand side of the dash for the brass plate with info on it such as engine etc could also be screwed onto the base of the drivers seat right at eye level when you open the door. Otherwise the serial number will be stamped right around the left front spring (rear hanger) on the frame rail You are looking for a 4 digit or seven digit number If you can post a pic or two maybe it will help. Whatever you want we will try and help you with OK

Some pics of an old girl at the show this summer. didn't get the whole truck for some reason? Was looking at how some HD's with Detroits had the fender knotched out for the exhaust and others didn't, wounder why? was it for dual stacks maybe?

That's a great looking HD, can I steal the pics for the Hayes website? is it just me, or is that a really short wheel base for a logging truck?

The HD flat deck from my show, good to see it show up there, used to be owned by an electrical contractor in 100 Mile until a friend happened to get it. That truck was the only "issue" with the show, while backing into the tent it lost a hydraulic steering hose... Hopefully next year it will be back, with a little work done, I do have the serial number somewhere...

I had to resize the pics for the forum but if you would like I can email you the originals for better quality. There was 3 Hayes HD's in Sundre AB owned by Bill Edgar who passed away last year, any idea if they were saved? Don Robinson out of Sundre also deceased had an HD with a jimmy and budd disc wheels had it for sale complete and running with pole trailer. Up near Caroline AB there was a Clipper in a farm yard cut off behind the cab in beautiful condition complete with dual stacks and chrome air cleaners.

The clipper that was cut behind the cab sounds interesting, I was told of a truck that was nearly complete (restoration) the owner was going to put air ride under it, he told another guy that he could take the original drivers out of it. When the owner came back to the truck a while later, the fellow that was taking the drivers out simply cut the frame, instead of unbolting the drivers - think it was an old Trimac or Agressive transport truck. Not too sure about the other ones, my Hayes knowledge is rather limited - but this is something that I am working on :D If you have higher res pictures of the other truck send them along and i will post them. The big question is, did it follow you home?

10-2.jpg11-2.jpg12-2.jpg13-2.jpg14-2.jpgGreat weekend, Hayes HD frame size 10" X 3/8" like a KW or are they special rolled? T1 or mild steel? Saw that really nice restored red HD with the sleeper headed South out of Edmonton around noon today. What are you restorers doing for the double rail corrosion clean up?

Wow some great looking trucks there! A lot of familiar looking trucks, especially the crane with the sleeper in the second post...

For my 64, we beat the top flange to loosen up the rust between the rails and blew it out with an air compressor, the a bit of heating and beating and we knocked the flanges down as flat as we could get them. I say we, but all I did was give my friend some money to do it :D

P Kennedy-- Hayes frames were 9 inch and 10 3/4 only way to get the rust out is to split the frame and spread the rails Cut the rear crossmember bolts off nip all the chair assy bolts off and roll the whole bogie out--then spread the rails apart then start with a needle scaler or sand blast both inner and outer rails then POR 15 the whole thing. Trouble with doing this is usually the frame inserts are in tough shape and need to be replaced. Vic Rowlinson and I did this to my 72 HD and I had all new inserts bent and crossmembers so it was like starting new. Changed the rearend housings(found a mint set) and everything went in new Brakes bearings seals drums and lining and all the other stuff. Lots of work but sure put an end to problems later on You will find that with time the top rail will actually split from the rust. It will always be there. I know of guys that cut their trucks up because they wouldnt pass inspection anymore due to rust issues in the frame

21-2.jpgHDX, what can you tell me about serial#1072265. It looks like a KW big 6 tail clip was spliced in on this truck. This truck was headed south.
