I have had my pond turn over when it becomes super hot and kill all the fish a few times. It helps if you have a spring, keeps water moving enough for fish to live.

No permits needed to stock common species here. In fact, the only permit I've needed through this whole process is a building permit to move the dirt. Don't even need a permit to build a lake in Indiana if it's under 5 acres in surface area, and under 20' high dam. Indiana is pretty relaxed with regulations as a whole, and my little rural county is about as unregulated as it gets in the States. How have we allowed oursleves to fall so far into government regulation, in the land of the free? It's sad..

The lake is just shy of an acre, so plenty big and plenty deep enough to support a healthy fish population.
