Recent addition to the fleet is a 2003 Cat 277 MTL. I just hooked up a grapple bucket and the hydraulics work using the upper buttons on the right hand joystick. Problem is Aux hydraulics may be working to well as the grapples move extremely fast. Is there a way to modulate or slow down how fast the Aux hydraulics operate??

OK, it does not have high flow.

Here's the kicker - Auxiliary Hydraulic Control - Press the left side of the auxiliary hydraulic control (A1) in order to provide hydraulic oil flow to the lower auxiliary hydraulic line. Press the right side of the auxiliary hydraulic control (A2) in order to provide hydraulic oil flow to the upper auxiliary hydraulic line. The machine may be equipped with a auxiliary hydraulic control that is proportional. On machines that are equipped with a proportional control, hydraulic flow will vary with the amount of pressure that is applied to auxiliary hydraulic control. - It sounds to me as though your machine is not equipped with proportional control although it might be better if someone who had a machine so equipped to explain to you how it works.m for them.

Thanks Nige. Correct, I don't believe this machine has proportional control. A1 and A2 feels like a simple switch that activates a valve on and then the valve closes when released. Has anyone tried using a hydraulic flow restrictor to alleviate the quick movement? Any possible problems with using a flow restrictor?

is the aux controlled by two buttons or a thumb roller? If there are two buttons then it is an on/off control. It it has the thumb wheel then it is proportional.

You can purchase needle type flow control valves and most any hydraulic component supplier. I used to use them for slowing down the rotation of logging grapples on shovels.

Thanks John C. That was the direction I was heading, just wanted to make sure it was as simple a adding flow restriction without doing any damage to the pumps or hydraulic system.
