Thanks guys for all the input, I’ll get Cat to check it and go from there. There may be more issues that I can’t see, or may be simple link repair.

Cracked link, change link or all rails?

Noticed a crack on a link when I was loading dozer. I’m still running it , but know I need to fix ASAP. Dozer has 2500hrs and I’m owner/operator. I hate to spend on complete rails if I don’t need to. Suggestions???

    Cat dozer hourly rates

Ageee. I have a D5k, when customers ask my hourly rate I reply the I need to look at project and then give them a bid. They seem impressed with how quickly I can get a project done. They know what their paying up front. If they add more work I figure $150hr....

Material for project, you supply or customer?

I’m bidding on a small subdivision expansion, about 1600’ of road with sanitary and water. I’ve seen jobs where Contracter supplies material (erosion control, storm water pipe, etc). And I’ve seen some where the bid says owner will supply materials. I would think it best for me to supply and...

So you can learn from my dumb mistakes

I have a D5K, needed a bigger dozer for a job I had. Rented a D6T. (1st time in one). Had trouble starting after using it for 3 days. Turn the key everything lighted up but nothin to the starter. Frustrated, I called CAT and they sent a service guy. Gets in machine and try to start, nothing...

6N lgp or 6R xw vpat

I would think for finish and semi heavy digging the 6N with Vapt would be better. The 6R has more weight and power... may not be the best for a Vpat blade, that's why most have the semi U.

    First bid on commercial job

It’s only about 5-6 ft of cut and the spoil can be pushed with dozer. I have an experienced contractor that is helping me and...

2 New Guys From Arkansas 2 Dozers 1 Backhoe Going Independent.

Lots of good info. I’m in the same boat, been at it for 2yrs. Still getting the crumbs. I been leaning towards bidding the whole job, instead of hourly. Most my projects are only 1-2days. Mostly clearing/access roads, and building sites. I feel like I’m under pricing myself from the info.

Owner/Operator possibly lease to larger company

Thanks for all the insight! This is what I’m thinking—- D5 rental rate $5200 per month- that’s $32.50 hr. Add $25 or $30 for my wage: $62.50hr. If running my dozer $75hr and they provide fuel. Normally I charge $100hr for dozer with $200 transport fee. Thoughts???
