How to tell the difference between a Case 401b and Case A401 engine?

I have an 1150 dozer and am trying to determine if I have the 401b or A401 engine. I am sure this is not hard to tell for those that know what they are looking at, but I do not. Can anyone give me some advice on how to determine the difference? Thanks.

    starting case 1150

I am trying to start my case 1150 to no avail. It has been parked for two years. I just rebuilt the final drive and have it all back together. I have new batteries in it and have tried bleeding the fuel lines, to what i thought was sufficiency. And advice on what to do next? The engine is...

    Case 1150 blade cylinder parts

Been told a few times in life that I was not capable of doing things. All the more reason to do it. I think someone overseas once said that the 13 colonies could not make it on their own. Well I have the red white and blue flying outside off the front of my barn right now to show different...

    Case 1150 blade cylinder parts

I have a case 1150 I am working on getting back up to par. As some of you recommended, I was able to get the engine turned over after soaking the cylinders in diesel for a month. She turned over fine when I tried it. Now I'm going to change all the fluids, button up one hydraulic leak and dig...

    Final Drive Case 1150 C

I'm getting ready to tear into the final drive on the 1150 I just acquired. I will admit that I know nothing about heavy equipment repair for the most part. I build houses, fix farm tractors and can work on about anything else, but no experience with heavy equipment. Do you have any...

    Case 1150

You hit the nail on the head. I just check the old batteries and compared to the new batteries the terminals are reversed. My mistake, I guess now I will have to check and see what I damaged. If if were the bearing that were out would it hurt to drive it up on a trailer? Thanks so much for...

    battery problems?

Ok, I posted a few minutes ago about a 1150 Case I was trying to get running. It just hit me like a ton of bricks. What would happen if I hooked up the batteries backwards to the tractor? Sparks at the alternator maybe and a little smoke? Yea, I fell like an idiot. If the sparks and...

    Case 1150

I have just aquired a Case 1150 (C ?). I think it is about a 1980 model or so with about 4500 hours on the engine. The rear right final drive has some issues as the rear sprocket is loose. The machine is sitting on blocks and the I can pull the rear end of the right track 5-6 inches side to...
