Lowering on the draw works worked well most times ,usually you would be boomed up tight because the load is heavy. You had to watch the American cranes with a sprag clutch on the boom hoist it will wind the boom up tight to the stops as the cutout is bypassed . I found out the hard way years ago. Took a while to understand why the boom just bent before our eyes. Maybe a computer would have warned me??

G..G..G..Granville.........!! Fetch your cloth.
No manufacturer name on the counterweight that’s sitting on the barge with it. Based on where we are I would imagine it’s something UK-built like a Priestman or a Ransomes & Rapier. If I get time I’ll see if I can get a bit closer to it and find a maker’s plate.

EDIT: Didn’t have to. A quick Google search shows it to be a Priestman Cub. https://www.theconstructionindex.co.uk/the-digger-blog/view/priestman-cub-restored-to-former-glory

The Preistman looks like a nice little machine even has a tubular boom. It has an interesting looking turntable,i see no hook rollers .

The 40 ton did some clamming ,digging out a fish habitat pond .Had to single lane the traffic so we had a work platform on one lane of the road. Some people were happy to sit there and watch the machine work, others were p##ssed right off being delayed for 15 mins. We ran 90'out almost flat at times with the 3/4 yd bucket . Beat any long reach excavator they could dream up.P9081960.JPG P9301970.JPG
