Hello everybody have a Komatsu D65e-6 serial # 30496 with a cummins nh220 it's an older dozer but it's ran great for us. Unfortunately I'm having a problem with fuel leaking into the motor oil and filling up the block. It doesn' act like an injector is going bad with power loss or excessive smoke, but there is definitely something wrong because I can run it for only about 2 days and it'll fill up again. Any help would be appreciated thanks

I remember something tank between the main fuel tank and the injection pump that when disconnected causes that issue. It has come up on this board before so someone should be along to point you in the right thread.

So I saw this thread also when I was looking for answers and it made me think about that. But I still have the small tank hooked up because every once in a while the float will stick and the belly pan gets a diesel bath from diesel flowing out that small tanks air vent! And I also shut the fuel valve out of the big tank when I'm done running so I don' have to worry about a fuel spill overnight.

Pull your valve covers and check the injector fuel tubes for leaks.

So I pulled all the guards around the motor and got the valve covers loose, I was able to look in at the fuel tubes and tops of the injectors while it was running but didn' see an obvious leak. So my question is what exactly should I be looking for or seeing if one of them has a small leak? I have also read you can use a dye product from cat that shows leaks under a black light, is this something I should try or is their some other tricks for spotting leaks?
Also one other thought I'll throw out here, could I have a bad seal in the fuel pump maybe that is letting it transfer through to the engine?
Thanks for the responses so far this problem really has stumped me.

I can't remember if those shut off on the throttle linkage or electrically. Does your machine have the electric shutoff solenoid on the fuel pump? If so what is the position of the bypass screw on the back of the solenoid. It needs to be all the way one way or the other. I don't recall which is proper but one way the engine won't shut down.

The fuel pump guy on here probably knows if it can leak through the pump. I believe it can but don't know for sure. I always sent them in for rebuild if I thought I had a problem.

Those fuel pumps have 2 seals with a tell hole between them .The hole is toward the mounting flange on the bottom outside, you can run a wire in it to make sure its open. Parts stores have the dye kits with a battery flashlite uv lite, that's what I use. Make sure it has diesel dye.
Good luck

Sorry it took so long to reply but I've been super busy. Anyhow I ended up pulling the injectors and the o-rings on the cups were shot. Had them rebuilt and replaced the copper gaskets on the crossover tubes and viola problem solved no more diesel in the motor oil!
