Replacement Backhoe Seat

Anyone have a success story with replacing factory seat with aftermarket and getting it to ‘feel’ ok?

I replaced mine quite a few years ago, its held up well. I got it from Northern Tool, they have a large selection, and very good prices IMO. I could tell no difference, but its a very old hoe, Deere 500A.

As mentioned Northern Tool has a good selection, Tractor Supply is another. You should be able to find something very similar to original.

Fairly normal for me to not do enough legwork and this one is proving to be no different.

Old age is making me crankier than what I use to be. Some of it is just not asking enough of the right questions.

This story is about four months long so I will shorten it and give my side of it.

Started out to just have the cushions recovered. That turned out to be almost half of new so I ordered new bottom and back from Case. They arrived, not the same color or design. Probably should have went with them but every time you get in the machine, it’s looking right back at you. Local dealer check the numbers over and that’s all they could get from Case. Called case corporate - they were going to send me back the the local dealer. I was done with that so I returned the cushions.

Started looking around at aftermarket. Looked at northern tool and tough seats. Northern may have been the better choice.

I’m going to get this installed but it’s not similar to the Case original seat. It’s a 20+ year old machine that does me really well.

I’m mostly disappointed it doesn’t fit or perform as the original. Web site wants you to call to make sure their seat fits your machine....that happened but didn’t happen!

I’m probably about over being aggravated....at least for now.

Have you owned this machine since new? If not, since the dealer had trouble matching up the seat I'm wondering if indeed it is original Case equipment?

This is what was sent as replacement cushions from Case.

Machine was used when acquired by me. Seat is a mechanical suspension and looks like the one in the parts manual so I assume it’s original.

I see the Case logo so I guess they are original. Odd that the dealer couldn't match them.

The mismatch may have been the result of a parts number mistake.
Wouldn't you think that they could have found the matching cushion for one or the other ?

That would seem logical but the parts numbers on the two boxes matched the numbers in the parts book. Conversation just ended. Like we came to a deep, wide ditch with no way to proceed so we just stand on the bank and look across the water. I’m amazed and/or dazed.

If anyone is interested in a used mechanical seat that was removed from a Case 580M, they are welcome to this one. Only item it’s missing is the seatbelt. I cabbaged it for the new one. Live near Jackson, MO but make trips to Waterloo, IA and Gretna (Omaha), NE. Would have no problem dropping it anywhere along the way.

Not a great pic but this is the replacement. Grammar MSG8531S.
Not perfect but certainly good enough AND the bride thinks it is great (I repeat - Perfect) according to her...and she writes the checks . Notice the ’lift kit’ for the seat base. Wasn’t expecting to need that!

I’ve got to get more chilled out!
This being aggravated over silly stuff is not who I am. Going to work on that.

The last pic is from the front of the new seat. Looks like you just lift up to adjust the seat height. No, not quite! You stand up and with both hands on opposite sides of the seat pan, lift up until it klicks. There are three heights to choose between.
