spmiller, did deere do away with the steering wheel? I used to run a 96 648g and I always had my right hand on the steering wheel and the left switched between the shifter, grapple control and the handle on the door. it would seem that with 2 joysticks that you'd be forced to wear the safety harness to keep from bouncing around like a pinball.

Nice looking machine. Does the seat and controls spin 180 degrees to back up like Tigercat has done. Then you don't have to turn the machine around to go back for the next jag. Caterpillar went to joystick steering in its huge 994D front end loader in late 1998. Not sure if they are still building them that way but they were well received. Is the JD transmission shifter in the steering joystick?

180 seat, no steering wheel, handle if you need to hangon. Everything is on the joysticks and much more comfortable and convenient. John Deere has been making a big effort to making machines with improved ergonomics for greater operator comforts. Alot of companies are working longer shifts to meet mill/industry demands, so Deere has done what contractors have asked for. Comfortable, reliable, preformer, with low operating costs.

After you've run a machine with joystick steering, skidder, grader, loader, whatever, you'll never want to see another steering wheel again.

Unless it's an old Garrett with the steering lever. Those things were miserable......LOL

I grew up on a old Garret. I think they came new with the 30 inch long steering handle pins slopped out. I have another one I recovered a few years ago in my machine shed that I hope to have finished enough to be running this summer. I will get some pictures up in the next few days. The exhaust running up inside the left canopy sweep sure crackled also.

looking at the scratches in the paint, it seems like its been out doing some work or some field trials.
would like to know what kind of feed back the operator gave.

any ideas on a possible release date for the model?

Here's my miniature contribution...

I have been working on this for over two years but the build has been sitting since last year at this time. 3 days ago I got a bean up my *$$ and decided to finish the hydraulics. About 30 hours in the shop and I have a working Tigercat 630D grapple skidder in 1/10 scale. There are still some adjustments to be made and many details to add but it's a good step forward...

I guess you may be able to get some harder tire foams, that what we had to do with our Wraiths when we went from Crawling to speed. Fronts kept rolling under in the turns.

Great build there Reg

Thanks Hank. For sure. These tires don't even have foam in them yet so a little bit of softer foam will probably do the trick. I haven't glued the tires to the rims yet so I'm glad to find out now that they are too soft.
