12009 was the old Gwin and Sons 120 from Vernonia. I think Murk came down to Oregon and helped train the crew on that one.

That was a great find Skadill! Allen & Gibbons had at some time 5 Madill 046's (which made them to the biggest operator of 046's); 3 was mtd on 078 carriers, one on an 079 trailer and one on a Madill M10 tracked carrier. The last one had a Cummins KTA1150, all the others having Cummins VT1710's rated at 525 hp. It's a picture of another 046 formerly owned by A&G in post #1052, it's now in NZ.

After what I can understand this must be serial nbr 22077 produced in 1976, so the engine must have been replaced.

I guess you found a serial from either the spar/guyline frame or the yarder?

I hope also RG or someone else can tell something about Allen & Gibbons Logging - Canyonville, OR!

Arcata/Simpson's 044's. I find out that 044 nbr 60028, GMV1271, produced in 1975 seems to have been owned by Elko Inc in Kamiah, Idaho. Nbr 60029, CAT engine and also delivered in 1975 was owned by ARCO at some time.

May both these machines originally have been in Coos Bay or California, and the first one is the one sold to Idaho and the later is the one in Montana?

Log Big - hope you get the chance to check out this machine this summer, get some pictures and a serial nbr!

just spoke with a guy about Simpson 044s. they bought two at same time he did not know what happened to one the other one went to klamath and later was sold in 89 auction to idaho it had a cat engine arcata did not want it (cat engine)so they went to coosbay after that and got weyco 044 that was sold around 1994? to montana.a lot of iron has passed through the two companies i remember seeing simpson korbel 071 in 1978.going to clarify about simpson/arcata. simpson timber and arcata redwood were two differnt companies until 1988.simpson bought arcata and then shut their klamath company sides down and let arcata continue to run.simpson korbel had converted to 2nd growth in early 80s and continues to log with company sides today.wouldnt it be strange if sn. 60028 had made full circle through weyco back to california

No, sorry we bought it from Canfor Engelwood in 01. It only took 6 feet of pipe to fix it, had it fixed in a couple of days.

Wow, that was an informative and interesting video! With the engineering skills and experience with manufacturing yarders and other heavy equipment Brightwater have I'm in no doubt this must be a good machine!

If anyone is interested here is a youtube link that Brightwater Engineering in Nelson New , Zealand have put together on the new 124 that they have nearly finished. http://youtu.be/MlWmLBxCR9Y

Note a couple differences in the new design. There is an extra bull gear on each of the mains on the passenger side to provide equal counter rotation for dropline - also, they have gone with Eaton Interlock Clutches.

As far as I know all the 124s have had Eaton slip clutchs in them. The older catelog with the GBA Logging machine lists them as Eatons. All the 120s had Witchitas as did the 123. Dont know why they used the different brands for the machines of the same era. The equal reversing was a Madill original option as well. 12440 has it as does 12446. Im not sure when they started to offer it.

I like the look of the new cab. Having the front window so you can look down at your tracks when walking will be handy. Interesting also that they have only speced the single band for the haulback brake. It would have been nice to see a bit more gaurding under the left front corner to stop the hydraulics getting hit by sticks etc.

Im sure they will have learned alot from building this machine and will learn even more when it goes to work. I am sure this is not the last lot of development that will come from Brightwater.
