Just noticed someone also misinformed you about the trailer length law.

The 28 ft max length is only for a multi trailer combo. As in a tractor and double 28 ft trailers.

Look at link in previous post with CT link, its in there after the weight tables.

Did you read the link from CT I posted?

There is nothing in there that says what you were told. Also some people you ask may not quite know the answer or understand what you are saying.

Here is a link to the CT General statutes (laws). Start with 14-261.

http://www.cga.ct.gov/2011/pub/chap248.htm

I read them and cannot find anything there to corroborate what you were told.

These laws are derived from federal bridge law for bridge law states, and have to be followed to the letter of the law. With a few exemptions like we have of higher weight limits with more axles and length, but still following the bridge law formula. Like our bridge law is the same as yours and everyone elses, except the we can add more axles and length to gain more weight carrying capacity. So at 51 ft with 5 axles we are the same at 80,000 and with 6 axles at 43 ft the same 80,000. Look at the links.

The bridge law states all use the same formula.

I can tell you from experience that DOT employees or sworn officers are not always the best sources of info, but they can be made to follow what is written.
