Well, it's nice to have work but demo sure is hard on the iron. all the dust is brutal even with water and in the fall. the landfill just started weighing the cans instead of by the yard. so too much water can be a bummer with the weight. on this one we dug up an unmarked water line that had been capped inside of a crawler. it was thin wall cl200??? no curb stop or shutoff, they metro guy's finally showed up and we had to shut the the pump down for the neighborhood. it ran for about an hour and a half and maybe 60 lbs. this one was tough but we got it done

usually i change out the outer air at lunch which helps. but with all of the drywall and fiberglass it really plugs things up. the elevation is around 7500' feet and at the start of the job the temp's were in the high 70's and by the end of the day if you are working the machine too hard it tends to heat up. that big counterweight heats up all day, so we will water it down which helps. we just pulled the radiators and flushed em. now we just have to clean the rad. fins and oil cooler. but yes , at that temp and elevation it heats up. just hoggin dirt no problem. . any input is welcome

firewood

no, stock. all the wood was sorted out of the waste. so we stacked it outside of the c&d. then all of this was recycled. in all i pulled out 2 40 yd bins after i mashed it hoe. it is funny about fire fire, whenever we have wood from clearing and demo i call everyone i know and knowone shows up, then we torch it down at the yard and i start to get phone calls. i also pulled out all the steel and we netted about $600.00 in copper

here is my clean up technique, probably nothing new to most, finishing up with the wood only bins. it is hard to keep it clean , one liitle piece of rubber or drywall and they refuse the load and charge the bin at trash price.

Construction, occasional excavation. quit quarry
Just tripped over this site a couple days ago. its great! like sitting in a coffee shop listening to guys who actually know something. I live in a little town that could have 20% of the old houses demoed . it took 3 yrs to get the burnout across from my house torn out. Small house took about 5 days and 4 40' roll offs. Hauled in some dirt and the place looks great. I think the contractor did a great job. That said I hear it cost 20 to 30K does that sound right? I guess that's why a lot of these old houses just sit around forever.

Not to hijack a thread, but since you dont have enough post to start a new one......
I suppose it could cost $20-30k but its doubtfull a single family dwelling would without any complication's cost that much. I have included a pic of a demo and I charged the customer less than $10k (dont want to say exactly)

ColoradoDigger: I had a chance to buy a 225ZTS deere but was worried about the reduced tail swing, do you get along with your's alright? they are interesting looking machines for sure but I cant see where the advantage of them are. why did you choose one?

and also, do you think swinging the extra weight of the counterweight has anything to do with your machine heating up a little?

Pj

runnin hot

i know my link belt runs hot while doing demo. i don't know about the deere if it is the same as a hitachi it has a different setup. mu buddies with 321's have no complained about their machines running hot. the benefits are huge espescially in the demo application. where i was loading out i only had maybe 1 foot on the one side, they do seem to be well balanced. yes the big counterwight is a problem as they heat up all day

I dont have to much experience on really big ZTS machines, I did load my truck a few time with a 225 Deere on a job I was hauling off from, I never got the feeling that it might be tippy. Our 70SR kobelco is very well balanced though, you can fill the 30" bucket and it remains stable, even with the boom extended. I built a stone wall from the top a couple weeks ago, and the bottom stones were the biggest.I was at full extension with some pretty good nuggets, and never felt like I was going to lose it. After getting used to the short radius machine, it would be hard to go back to a conventional tailswing. I think i'd be bumping stuff quite a bit.:pointhead

great demo pics. Those cans sure do look heavy, and bummer that they are now charging you by weight. Maybe it's worth the dust and the hot running machine to save on landfill costs. How much profit did you make on the demo job? Did you do that old red house too, or just the restaurant and attached house? Nice job, man.

nedly o5, yeah the zero tails are awesome, but we will be buying a 210 x2 as soon as starts to pick up. the 225 is paid with almoste 5000 hours still under warranty
wolf- thanks, there was no alot of profit because we are so far behind with a/r and a/p but it will be around 10%. we took down the old house ans the restuarant. we are now filling the hole which has takin 130 well loaded tandems, so far..... maybe 5- 8 more, the good thing is we have fill with a 10 minute turn, yesteraday i got 35 loads and today close to the same, thanks for the nice comments. more pics
