Right now I have a 1979 international 1854 S Series. It has a dt466 engine, 165hp and a 5speed and a hi low rear end. I haul a 580 Super L Case backhoe for the septic work I do.
Since its a 1979 its getting some what worn out. I'd like to replace it with a newer International. Right now I'm looking at a 1998 4700 international.
It has a DT444, 190 hp and a 6 speed manual trans. Just wondering how that would do.

I had a 4700 with a DT444, mine was automatic and it didnt have hardly any power, the 466 is the best small engine made. I would stay away from that light weight truck and small engine

Thank you. That's what I wanted to know.

What about a 1995 Chevy kodiak with a 3116 cat and 6 spd transmission
Truck has air brakes and an air gate

The trailer is a 2014 diamond C fleetneck that's a 21+5 with monster ramps
30k springs but only 12k axles
Tires are new and has electric brakes

What do you think this truck would do?

There's an 04 IH 4300 lo pro local for sale. Cab chassis, 340k, Dt466/Allison. It's got my gears turning. I've been eyeballing 11 up F550's and the entry point for them seems to be $30k ish.

I don't know enough about 4300's. Never heard much bad about Dt466 or Allison. Thoughts?

From what I've read about the 466 the biggest complaint is the lack of power, has anyone done anything to turn them up/ turn the pump up different turbo exc? I recently found a 4900 set up as a road tractor and was thinking about buying it but am hesitant because I'm scared I won't be happy with the lack of power.

Would pay dearly if over power a DT466. Bottom end can handle SOME increase in load but not all that much. Better off L10/Electronic M11 Cummins in a heavier truck, heavier duty drive train.
