Hi, just signed up after reading this entire thread. It started out as a post on FB, in which I found a pic of an old twinsteer, advertised for sale as a 71 C500b, with a 5 digit s/n... Good lookin old bed truck --sorta.
A couple of comments from some friends got me curious. I'm on holidays, so, asked a co-worker to look up the serial, tell me what it started as. It was 85751c, Vancouver built unit, Consolidated Bathurst, apparently. It started life as an LW848, 12v71n65, FL901, Clark 71's, KWC susp, 1263/9411c. Still has the 12v71 and that is nearly about it, as far as original goes. It does still have an A model cab, does not appear to be original 1971 style doors, they had the turndown handles. Looks as though it now has BD91, still a 6 & 4 (probably a 1241 instead of a 9411), and it appears to have at least one drive steer axle in it now
I like puzzle trucks like this one, it is amazing how much work people have done to some of these old girls, especially when they want to build a bed truck out of one. I know of lots of various components that came from the Island and Wash to build bed trucks with around here. I've shipped some of them overseas, old 4640's, Clark's as well.
Thought you may find it interesting as to what happens to some of these units in their old age.
