Trakloader 6-211 went to BCFPs Renfrew Division new in 1955. Later years she was sold to contractors and now is owned by our outfit Island Pacific Logging. It was in the Courtenay yard for a long time and now is sitting at the Cameron Shop outside of Port Alberni waiting to be driven down to the Sarita Shop yard as a standby tanker. Trouble with all these old girls is they belong in parades and old truck shows NOT still working. Sure says something about a 55 year old logging truck dont it. We have one down there now and we call it "THE MOUSE HOUSE" cause they moved the whole family into her.

1955!! Amazing that something can last that long in service! I figured she was pretty old, the old fashioned Cummins was a dead giveaway. Looks pretty good for her age, I'd say. :)

#6-211 looks like an ancient truck.

Yes she is and 3-216 is a pretty old lady as well - she is from 1960:D
Here are a few pictures of 2nd generation HDX - this is old BCFP #209. When delivered it was yellow and you can see some part of old paint and BCFP name and unit number at left door

HDX that would be neat. Looking forward to see some great pictures:)
Well I might start a CZ thread as well. They had a lot of interesting equipment and a lot of HDX preoaders both standard set back front axle and set forward front axle model(my favorite):D

Thanks for info of 6-211. I did not know she was that old:D

How do you identify a set forward axle compared to a set back? I've looked at a lot of pictures and can't really see a difference in the front. Some do look like they have a longer wheel base.

Well it is very easy to see. I will post some pics and info at the "Vancouver Island.." thread. I think it's the right place:D (I can't remember if BCFP) had any set forward axle.

Hayesno1 The first picture on this thread Unit # 3-132 was an Elk River Timber dump truck when new As shown in photo she is in BCFP colors because ELK RIVER TIMBER was bought out by BCFP Also the last picture of the KW taken at Saratoga Ventures was also an Elk River Timber unit and was indeed cut up At least the owner tries to save everything he can but sometimes finances dictate what must go. The pics of the HDXs #207 #208 and #209 were three sister trucks --They were of the first HDXs built in 1954 All three of them are 1954 and were no 2,3 and # 4 built The first Hayes HDX was sold to Butler Bros in Sooke BC but was later sold to Bill Neil Contracting of Victoria That truck worked for many years but was destroyed in a bad accident up Jervis Inlet. We tried to track down her remains in an attempt to restore her but had no luck. Those three trucks are in good hands and are safe from the scrappys. The one in the pictures #209 has the original 300HP cummins supercharged engine in it but alas the engine has issues due to attempting to start her with water in the exhaust system--bent some rods. That is how we got her. I will relate the recovery trip bringing two of them home another time

Thank you HDX for great info:). I have an article from 1955 about those BCFP HDX. In article is mentioned some specs and which division they operated. I have to find it in my "hidings".

This is a great thread! HDX: I know where there is a derelict Cummins 275, and a 320, both of which seem to have a few salvageable parts. The rods should be the same as the 300, if you need them, let me know. You may also be able to identify the HDX pictured in Wilmer Gold's book, "Logging As It Was". Remember the one, pulling the lowbed with a TL-15 Trakloader on the back, loading stray logs onto an older, smaller Hayes? Hayesno1: Keep the pictures coming!

Hayesno1 that picture you just posted with the P16 conventional with the trailer on its back taken at Honeymoon Bay Dryland That Truck was the P16 featured on the cover of the Pacific Truck and Trailer pamphlet showing how its done at Pacific. Her original unit # was 6-258 went to BCFP Caycuse Division Driver was John Bell. This truck was involved in a runaway after being sold to Island Pacific Logging before they took over the Franklin River Division Operation. The runaway happened down in Sarita and the truck was towed back to Messachie Lake Shop. Some years later she ended up down at the Sarita Shop as a parts Donor where she lays today Sad end for another P16

It's a GM 6-71 engine, 5X4, spring suspension, Bud wheels, 12:00-24 tires, 2,500 gallon water tank. I got a poor picture of chassis plate so it is very difficul to read/identify digits ei. Engine model no: ??307-RD. First 2 digits may be "12" so it could 12307-RD. It doesn't to me.Engine seriel no at plate is: 6B18554. Max speed was 29 mph. :D

Judging by the intake and exhaust configuration, I'd say it's a 6-110. I could be wrong... 29mph! Let's hope the fire isn't too far away! The 6-71 is usually around 200hp, give or take a few each way depending on vintage. 320 would be in the correct hp range for a 6-110.
