Does anyone know how to pull apart the idler wheel adjuster assembly on a Hitachi EX 120-2 so we can replace the seals? We have the assembly out of the machine but cannot seem to move/undo the rod nut. Is the assembly under tension from the coil spring?
I look forward to any helpful response.

Whoa nelly! Rod nut? On the track adjuster? If your talking about a big nut on the very back of the removed adjuster assembly...do not take that nut loose! Yes that assembly is loaded by a very big stiff spring. You should be able to simple pull the chrome adjuster rod out of the housing. You should find a u-cup seal on the end of the chrome rod when you pull it out.

Yeah, thought that would be the case - have since removed the rod and replaced the seals - all good.
Thanks for your valuable input.
