According to a new research of UK workforce undertaken by the specialist recruiter Robert Half, workers were asked, “Other than additional compensation, which one of the following do you believe would top your wish lists when it comes to your jobs next year?” And here is the result:

Topping the employees’ wish list is more holiday/ annual leave (ranked the most desired perk by 40% of respondents), followed by more flexible working hours (28%). 16% want more training or professional development opportunities. 12% want home working/ telecommuting, and 3% want other corporate services like iron services or fitness centre.

More holiday/annual leave 40%
More flexible working hours 28%
More training or professional development opportunities 16%
Home office/telecommuting 12%
Other corporate perks like ironing services or a subsidised gym 3%

If I was still working one of the tops on my list would be for upper management to treat all employees as real human beings, not just some number on a spreadsheet.

Next would be to do winter repairs now while it is still in the 50ºF temps and not put it off till the last minute when everything is buried in a couple feet of snow then have to rush around and skip most of the work because we need to start up in three weeks.

Amen to that. I was lucky as I worked for a large construction corporation that treated employees as well as clients well and with respect. When I retired the CEO (with 2,300 employees) called me and thanked me for my commitment to them and spoke with me for 30 minutes about many of my projects. 17+ years ago I was setting in the corporate office lounge at 7 in the morning on my first day and he came up to me, said hello, introduced himself, and asked if he could get me a cup of coffee. You do not see that much anymore. The way I seen some of the subcontractors treat their employees on some jobs I can see why folks don't care if they do a decent job or not for them.

My wish is that if a person gets banned for posting spam here, they won't re-register under a different name and repeat the crime.
