I am looking at buying a trackhoe that needs an engine. From what I have been told, the engine was wrecked with ether, so it does not run..... Can they be towed? Will it ruin the drive motors? This is a JD790D.

Rodney, A 790D John Deere excavator can be towed by removing the sun pinions in both track drive planetary reductions. The machine can then be towed slowly, just remember that if it gets rolling and it is adviseable to have another vehicle to slow it down.

Not sure about the JD but all Cats have the brakes in the final drice and they are released by the drive pressure when you move.

To tow them we have to pull the cover off the final and remove the center shaft/sun gear.
