Replaced old fuel shut off selonoid with a new one, Hooked it up and turned key off and on to see if it was working properly.
Holding Fuel Shut off Selonoid in my hand it started to get super hot?
Does anyone know if new selonoid is bad or do I have a short or ?????
Trying to see why new selonoid is getting hot?

Thank you
John

If it has a link rod or some such, adjust it to make sure that the solenoid plunger can bottom completely, with just a hair of slack left before the linkage comes up against the stop. There are two windings in these solenoids, one is high current and is the "pull" winding, the other is low current and is the "hold" winding. If the linkage doesn't allow the plunger to bottom and open the internal switch for the pull winding, you have a very expensive smoke generator for about half a minute.

Please don't ask how I learned that lesson, some years ago. :Banghead
