Great pictures as always Hoeman! Is there a reason larger sized companies use the railings on the hoes? I understand that it could be a possibly dangerous fall, but it makes me wonder if it helps in other areas like lowering insurance rates or anything like.

that 345's got trimble on it. Some guys at Toromont cat were telling me a couple years ago that Cat wouldn't install trimble from the factory at first because the safety guys there didn't believe it was safe setting up the recievers in the morning/taking them off at night... well, throw a railing on the counterweight and it's instantly safe I guess...

GPS on a 345 seems overkill if you've got a D6 with GPS trimming... unless you've got all kinds of crazy grade changes all over the place lol

one D6 with GPS can keep up to a couple 345s and show 'em where they should dig... in my experience at least... (and fix up the haul roads at the same time)

One of the reasons we use GPS on the 345's is we are eventualy trying to acheave steakless jobsites. Yes a dozer with GPS could and often be all we need . But some of our jobs have the hoes cutting all alone at one end and dozers at the fill..and tractors with drag boxes doing haul roads. I say if they wanna give me GPS I;ll take it!!..It makes life easier when ya got no stakes or dozer around..Ive been operating hoes for 25 years and dont often need GPS buty it helps for line work ie road boxes, undercuts.location etc just my opinion :drinkup
