The rear frame was align bored and new bearings were installed. These are plastic bearings and they actually wore away the metal.

A 140m getting some major update done. It was stripped down to basically the bare frame.

Nice update, Good to see you're busy. I heard today one of our quarries bought a new 990, and thought I remembered you saying that you work for CB. I don't know if that quarry does business with you guys (I think they used to) or Ransome. When a customer buys a machine that big, does it typicaly go straight from the factory, or does it stop at your shops first?

Big equipment can go to the job or the shop. It all depends. Sometimes there is dealer added option that need to be installed so they go to the shop other times there are know issues and so they go to the shop to get tested before the customer sees them. Generally its cheaper to ship and assemble at the job.

Pulled the engine and trans as a unit on Friday.
It was a tight fit with the pumps and suction tubes still on but it is easier than removing them in the machine

Pumps, left most is the hyd pump, then steering pump, then trans pump and the small one is the pilot pump. The fan pump is on the engine.

Pumps were remove and are getting rebuilt, engine was sent to our rebuild shop and the trans will be rebuilt here at our branch.

Well, today i connected the engine and trans, installed all new or rebuilt pump and added the new accessories, hoses, mounts etc.

Picked it up with two cranes and set it in. Man handled the trans mounts and bolted them on. They weigh 50+lbs each and take a little bit of azz to get them in place while the trans hangs on the crane.

Now the time consuming task of connecting everything else.

The 980 was approaching 20K hours so it was time for a freshened up powertrain before the quarry kicks into action in the spring.

I used both cranes with one controller in each hand until it was above the machine then two people lower it into place. more due to watching as it is lowered because it is a tight fit.

We sold a few 329D's to a customer who wants single grousers. The tracks were sent to our track shop to get the shoes swapped. Much quicker than doing it manually.

Nice pictures, thanks for putting them up. This is a piece of the heavy equipment industry that most of us don't see very often or don't see ever.

You can come and put a set of those single grousers on my 345D any time you want.
