I desperatly Need a back hoe..
But they are out of my universe price range.. I Has any one experienced being forced to change the ring gear I think it's called..
The ring gear is stripped in Several spots..
The machine is a major project to start.. Every time.. continuously turning cranck till you find a good spot on fly wheel..
Once running Every thing seems to operate ok short of the normal micro hydraulic line leaks..
I need a back hoe badly.. This back hoe is stabbed in multiple places.. but seems to work ok..
$2500 Is the price... How many hours to pull the motor to change the flywheel ring gear ??
Thank you for you Thoughts..

It looks like it should be an International engine, the location is Washington, so a ring gear shouldn't be too big a problem to scrounge up. Is this a gas engine, or a diesel? The 282 diesel is not a modern diesel engine, you'd do a lot better with something from a different brand, or newer in a diesel. International gas engines of that era were as good as they've ever been.

If you had a shop set up and the know how, a day for the whole job would be reasonably optimistic. Is this really a backhoe on a wheel loader? that could turn into a day to get the backhoe off, another back on, easily turn into a week if you don't have the setup to help do it efficiently. Not that I'd deter you, just be aware of what you're getting into.

If it's an IH engine, I wouldn't think it would be hard to get a ring gear for it. If you knew the tooth count and inside diameter, something for a tractor would probably work and IH built a lot of gas tractors, plus all the pickups and 2-ton trucks with 6-cylinder engines. Look for Farmall 460, 560, 656, or 706 ring gears. Probably no reason 4 cylinder engines couldn't use them, either, and maybe diesel, too.

Don't know what the engine this ring gear is for but found a site that lists many ring gears. Once you know what the engine actually is and Diameter and tooth count you could contact them if no one else can help:
