Wife and I would prefer a 5th wheel but the L tank and tool box doesn't allow the room for the hitch and turn radius in the bed. One day when I retire or win the lottery we'll have a truck with no tank or tool box so we can have a 5th wheel.
I don't know how much storage you need, but there are a few companies that make a 90 gallon tank with an integrated toolbox section that are bed rail height.

These hybrid service bodies aren't cheap, but they are cheaper than a second truck.

The combos with 90 gallons I have looked at the storage side isn't big enough.

That's a nice tool body - who makes it?

BTW - not driving a 450/550 as a daily driver. Might as well be a covered wagon they ride so rough.:D

On a different note, driving to shop today I spied three individuals at the college CDL school
looking at a tractor with hood up, so I stopped to shoot the breeze. Two of them were instructors
just looking the X15 over under the hood. The one knew who I was because the school is located
about 5 blocks away from shop at airport. Anywho one thing led to another and I was asked if I
could or would be able to stop by during class times to share old school experience of what to
look for mechanically and tips for driving in good and bad weather. I said {sure be glad to}.

You could have a good part time side business doing truck inspections for buyers looking at used trucks.

This Thursday I will start driving grain again for harvest, between then I might have a trip
to Jerome Id to pickup a new Western Star, I have half of my annual fence staining done,
still have that to do, plus all the fall trimming to do. Plus a trip to Lebanon Ore to bring
the 351 back and start that process. I think I have enough crud on my plate as it is.

Just thought you could make some easy money. I basically took the weekend off. Trying to keep as normal routine as possible and looking after the kitty cat. Hard to wrap my head around losing my partner of 22 years. I'm not sure how I should be feeling or what I should be doing.

When you go to Lebanon, you could check out the Santa Maria valley railroad #205. I doubt this engineer will still be there….IMG_1409.jpegIMG_1394.jpeg

Just received billing on my Rock Haul, 1" base or Inch Minus as we know it was 52 Ton, at $13/t, raised two days later to $16.50. Just over $700 with the $34 fuel I insisted to pay.

Super cheap!

I'll pay that for 25 ton delivered within 10 miles of the quarry.

Tomorrow afternoon at 2 I will give 16 CDL students information on {Air Disc & Drum brakes}
along with {Driver Etiquette} behind the wheel and away from it while on duty.
All volunteered time.

I wish I could attend. All I know about air brakes is to not mess with the brake pots because they are like the recoil death springs on crawler tractors. I should probably take a course just so I have a good understanding and could do repairs if need be. Good for you to give the course. It really helps when the instructor really knows his stuff!

My dad used to drive over 4 hours to give a course on sharpening reel mowers at a turf grass college. I think all he asked for was to be paid for the gas he used to go there and back. It is much easier now thanks to spin grinders and digital controls but was a real art on manual sharpeners. Some golf courses would only have their reels sharpened by my dad. He sold a lot of sharpeners too and they pretty much came with hands on instructions. At one point he considered setting up a strictly sharpening business. He would have been busy. Biggest thing is to wear a proper mask. Grinding dust is really bad for the lungs.

I'm just adding to the coarse. Decided that instead of people possibly becoming celebrity additions
to Darwin awards or ending up on FB threads for stupid trucker of the week, should probably add
to the schools CDL class as someone who managed a fleet and delt with lots of personalities. Might
help a few that listen.--and it's something to do that's free.

I think this is a great way to help the new drivers! Thanks for doing it.

Way to go TS. I’d come up and throw in my 2 cents too but im sure you got it covered. One of the things I’ve always pushed was, if yer going to go off a steep long hill, stop on top, bounce the tires, feel the hubs then shut the engine off and apply the brake to 40lbs and check for air loss. But I know that you know that.

I'm sure you would have much to add. I only have a hour and thirty minutes but expect to
cover as much as possible without loading them up with so much that causes lost interest.
Most of it will be wheel ends, tires & how jakes operate and when become most effective.
The etiquette part is mostly about how professionals behave while behind the wheel.
